I wanted to share this strange experience to see if any other Frenchie parents have ever seen anything simlar. We took Petula (5 months) out to Prospect Park in Brooklyn two weekends ago. One of our friends who we were with informed us that at one of the ponds there is a "doggie beach", which is a shallow, fenced off area that dogs can go swimming in and we figured we would go watch, but Petula of course would not go swimming because Frechies don't know how to swim. When we got there there were plenty of dogs romping around both in and out of the water, so we figured we would let Petula off the leash (after I reached an understanding with my girlfriend that if Petula jumped in the water and needed to be saved, she was going in after her  Petula played with a few dogs for several minutes and then promplty darted off into the water! She romped around up to her belly for a while and then did a couple of small loops out deep enough that she was actually paddling with her head up out of the water, but only maybe 6 feed out from the shore. Each time she did this I would say she was actually "swimming" for about 10 seconds. We were holding our breath anxiously on the shore with a look of astonishment on our faces  and everyone at the dog beach was cheering her on, so it was a very cute scene. I thought it was especially strange since she hates taking a bath so much! We don't plan on letting her go in the water on a regular basis, but we felt very proud of her for being so fearless arount the water! appicon Does anyone have a similar experience?

I was very surprised to find that Kai could "swim." We were at a park and there were ducks swimming in the perculation pond. Kai was barking and barking incessantly at them. Then he just went running into the water after them (I was ready to go in after him.) When the ground disappeared he "swam" for a few feet and then turned around and stared at me with a shocked face as if to say "what happened?" He paddled back right away. Since them we have taken him to Lake Shasta and his friends there are labs that LOVE to swim. We put a life jacket on him as a precaution, but he only wades up to his chest. He puts his paws forward to feel if the ground is there and won't go any further. He loves playing in the water as long as he can stand. appicon We carried him out there with his lifejacket on until we were waist deep to see if he would like swimming with us, but as soon as we let him go he swims right back to shore.

Oh Tirsa loves to swim too, I just cannot keep her out of the water. She will keep ground under her feet. She has really swam twice by accident with no problems but she will not do it for fun so to speak, but otherwise she just loves it. She even has her own pool in my back yard.
