Hello,
I have decided to change foods to a duck and sweet potato formulation. The only brand that I could find (as I am in South Korea) was Fromm. Here are the ingredients:

INGREDIENTS: Duck, Duck Meal, Pearled Barley, Sweet Potato, Brown Rice, Oatmeal, White Rice, Whole Dried Egg, Millet, Dried Tomato Pomace, Canola Oil (preserved with mixed tocopherols), Oat Hulls, Cheese, Flaxseed, Carrots, Broccoli, Cauliflower, Apples, Green Beans, Lecithin, Potassium Chloride, Cranberries, Blueberries, Salt, Chicory Root Extract, Glucosamine Hydrochloride, Alfalfa Sprouts, Yucca Schidigera, Folic Acid, Whole Clove Garlic, Parsley, Chrondroiten Sulfate, Lactobacillus Acidophilus, Bifidobacterium Longum, Lactobacillus Salivarius, Enterococcous Faecium, Vitamin A, D3, E, B12 Supplements, Choline Chloride, Niacin, Pantothenic Acid, Ascorbic Acid, Riboflavin, Thiamine Mononitrate, Pyridoxine Hydrochloride, Menadione Sodium Bisulfate (Source of Vitamin K Activity), Biotin, Zinc Sulfate, Ferrous Sulfate, Manganous Sulfate, Copper Sulfate, Cobalt Carbonate, Calcium Iodate, Sorbic Acid, Iron Proteinate, Zinc Proteinate, Copper Proteinate, Manganese Proteinate, Sodium Selenite

It actually looks quite good, with a lot of vegetables, probiotics, and vitamins and minerals (no nasty chemicals or preservatives).

It seems to me that this formula is similar to others mentioned on this forum. I would appreciate any comments on this brand or formula of food.

Thanks

Lilydog,
Thanks for the reply. That's what I thought about the grains. I guess the makers of this food are happy because they haven't included wheat specifically (and no corn or soy). This was the best available yet. Otherwise, there is the purina or hill's veterinary formulas. These just seem too artificial for my liking.

I'll keep looking.
Thanks again.

I actually think that Fromms is reasonably good - their four star range, anyway. And I've heard some pretty good reports from people with allergic dogs who've tried it. One nice thing about the Fromms - that often isn't the case with allergy formulas - is that it appears to contain a reasonable amount of meat (ie. the first two ingredients are meat sources - actually, they're the same meat source split into two, but each one outweighs the first grains).

LOL I also like barley a lot better than most grains - including rice - so I don't think of that as a particular negative. I agree though, the less ingredients the better if you're trying to narrow down the cause of an allergic reaction. Few ingredients are not so great as a long term diet though (except for dogs that are allergic to just about everything). Sooo - while the food does still contain grains, at least they're decent grains that aren't common allergy problems.

One way or another, this is a VERY much better food than either Hills or Purina. So if you don't find something better fairly soon, I'd certainly give the Fromms a try.

Incidentally, the people at the Whole Dog Journal have also put Fromms Four Star on their list of quality dry dog foods. That's pretty good going for an allergy formula.
