View Full Version : Am I being too neurotic?

Hello all!

I took Molly to a specialist today for her allergies and didn't really learn too much more than what our regular Vet had said. We have to do a food trial and I have to be disciplined and not give her ANYTHING other than the prescribed food. She also has a secondary bacterial infection related to her itchiness, so they prescribed antibiotics. Since she has been on prednisone, if we want to do the intradermal allergy testing, she has to be off pred for at least 3 weeks. I am going to try the food trial in combination with the antihistamine and see how she does with this.

OK, here is where I get neurotic....Molly licked up some blood from the dog who was in the room before her. Apparently, this dog was bleeding and when he shook off, his blood went everywhere. They had mopped the floor, but missed cleaning the legs of a metal chair, and Molly who is a sniffer and will eat anything was licking the chair and when I went over to see what she was licking, I saw it was blood!

They said that she can't catch any diseases, but I am really worried. Anyone have any idea whether this is a problem?

Thanks for listening - I know this is long, but I am a nervous nellie when it comes to stuff like this.

Paula

Nothing like a little neuroticism to round our your day! If the vet told you it's okay, then that's what I'd go by. Then again, if you're anything like me, you'll still probably search the internet freaking yourself out for a good 2-3hrs :p

I don't envy you doing the food trial! One day last week Lola threw up and I swear to god it was a carrot -- where'd she get that?!? It could only have been something she found on the ground somewhere, and, if I remember correctly, we hadn't even gone walking that day! We do live on very busy road with lots of pedestrians ... I can only imagine that someone (even a child in a stroller) threw, or dropped, a carrot that landed in my yard. Like you, I've got some hoovers that find everything. Shortly after the carrot incident, they were all fighting to sniff the 'potty' area. When I bent down to see what was the cause of all the excitement, I found a dead baby bird that had been pushed out of the nest - gross! If it were me, I'd have to keep her inside under strict supervision to keep her 'food free.' I do NOT envy you!!!

Hi,

My frenchie went through the same allergy issures, relentless licking of his paws. He would lick his paws everynight while we slept. It took us a while to figure out what he was allergic to. In the end, we are feeding Maki Wellness Fish and Potatoes and add cooked beef. We also add daily supplements in his diet (ester c and digestive/kelp nutrients). He is finally itch and lick free. Maki was also a very finnicky eater. We went through everything, from RAW diet to almost every brand of high quality kibble. For the first time in his life he mops the entire bowl clean. Another thing to consider when narrowing down his allergies are read the ingredients in any treats he may receive. Some treats include "meat by products" which can cause an allergic reaction if your frenchie is allergic to certain types of meat. Good luck and keep us posted.
