oscar is 5 months old now. can i start feeding him twice a day yet? instead of three times? he is 14 pounds as well. just wondering when i can cut out that mid-day feeding. i have done it a couple of times (fed twice) and he seemed to be fine.

Sharon...I agree with Judy......it's better to feed two meals a day rather than one big one while they are pups. Jim and I both work so 3 times a day was rarely an option. At some point Abby declined breakfast and she is fine now with one meal a day but has snacks before dinner when Jim gets home in the early afternoon. Ferris loved his breakfast for a long while but now he is ok with one meal a day....he is now 2. I think it all depends on their activity level. If Abby and Ferris have both have a full day of extensive play...we may offer breakfast and they may eat. You will learn how often to feed...and as long as they are in good weight...you are ok. Sharon,
I've always fed Dari (and all my animals) twice a day;once they were adults.
Before I switched to raw, she could have cared less cause she hated her food. Now she would eat 10 times a day if I fed her

Seriously, seems ok to me to cut back to twice.Do you give Oscar snacks/treats? This would be where they would fit into the daily regime.

thanks fran, yeah, i give oscar treats when training him. a lot of times, when we are on walks, other people give him treats too. it is hard for me to say no. i did feed oscar twice a day yesterday and he threw up his dinner. i think it was because he was too active after dinner. we had been gone for 6 hours so, we came home, fed him, and the walked him (where he met up with floyd the pug, and wrestled). that is when he threw up. so, i think i will keep trying the twice a day feedings and see if he can handle that as long as he is pretty inactive right after he eats. thanks for the advice all!
