Just wanting to here from everyone - if you can recall, at what age was your Frenchie completely house trained?
Will only be 3 weeks until our little goblin joins tha family and we'll start house training day one. Our pup will be 3 months.
I recall with our English, it took until about 8 or nine months before we totally trusted him.
Love to hear from one and all.
p.s. - my husband works from home so this may be an advantage in terms of daily training ......

Lisa...the fact that your husband is at home during the day is a BIG plus. I have owned Bostons and Standard Poodles since 1983 and they were all a dream as far as potty training....especially the Standards! They were potty trained almost immediately. Abby was my first Frenchie and she was a challenge to say the least. Frenchies are known for their difficulty in potty training and Abby fit the mold! She learned fairly quickly..."in Frenchie time lines" about peeing outside but sneaked her poops for months! Ferris (my male) came as a surprise and was easily trained. To this day he has never lifted his leg in the house. He is such a funny little guy and his "poops" are done in private...in the backyard, behind a bush where no one can see him.
That being said....patience and consistant training is what it is all about. That and carpet cleaning. :D Carolyn ........been there....done that....

Adora just turned 7 months old this week and for the first time ever she has been accident free for 24 hours! fiestaicon
Not sure how long it will last, but today has been fantastic!
The other Frenchies I know were fully potty trained anywhere from 9 - 18 months.

I knew Dari "got it" at 7 months. She woke me one night and was insistent that I take her outside. It was a good thing cause she had a BAD stomach bug. When we got outside, she exploded.
She may have had the occasional accident ,but as far as I am concerned she was housebroken then.

Caroline – I’m laughing at your post right now because it reminded me of our English.
It took FOREVER for him to find just the right “spot.” If there was any noise (traffic, kids walking by,) he’d get so angry and hold it until there was complete silence. But the funniest part was, after he had finished, he’d LEAP (like a foot in the air) away from his poop and RUN like hell to get away from it … he couldn’t stand to be near his own poop! As you can imagine, this was a bit of a challenge…. 75 lb dog , on leash, running at full speed while I’m trying to scoop the poop without loosing an arm!
Well, from the responses so far, it sounds as though Frenchies may catch on a little quicker than their English cousins. Thank goodness!
Oh ya, quick question … does anyone have a female who lifts her leg? One of our English’s’ Frenchie pals, “Maureen” was famous for it … she’d “swat” then “lift”, followed by the proverbial leg kick!

Dot and Mo were housebroken with 5 months with once in a while an accident. When they were 1 year old there were no more accidents. Some years ago I made a Questionnaire which nearly 120 French Bulldogs owners had filled in, one of the questions was when their Frenchie was housetrained http://80.126.213.52/~roos/dotkom/results/results.html

Rooosje – what a great survey – very interesting!
I get the feeling that we may have an easier time with our new Frenchie than we did with our English. He was sooooo stubborn! (but oh so charming)

congrats adora! woohoo. i bet that felt good lesley. oscar is 5 months old in two days. i would say he is MOSTLY housebroken. he hasn't pottied in the house in at least a week. and he hadn't pooped in the house for months until a few days ago when it was pouring outside (he HATES the rain). i took him out, he peed, and then ran back inside. within minutes of not watching him, he pooped. i could have killed him evilicon hehe. he still doesn't really have a signal to tell me he has to go out. he may, but i may not notice it. sometimes he will sit at my feet or go near the door lately. i take him out then. i take him out now a lot less than when he was a baby. probably about every 3-4 hours now, when i am home. so, i am hoping that by 6-7 months old, he will be totally accident free :) i could be dreaming
the weird thing for me about housebreaking is, he does so well at my house. and then i take him to a friends house and he usually pees there. if we stay overnight at my boyfriend's parents, he has pooped there every time. what is this about? just a new space? does this behavior end as they get older and even better at potty training? i love bringing him to my friends house but, it is pretty embarassing when we find poo in the corner. :o

Winston was 4 mos when we got him and he only pooped in the house twice - we lucked out since we have a small place and he hates the odor. Peeing was another story. We read that you have to catch them in the act and boy did we catch him. I was home all day but still we had to establish that there was NO WHERE inside that was okay - not carpets, tile, linoleum, bath mats, sofas, beds, laundry baskets (how he got in them remains a mystery), his bed, his crate, etc. And he went through an intermediate phase of thinking the doormat, being technically outside, was just fine. We went through a small mountain of "good potty" treats and a dozen gallons of Nature's Miracle. We couldn't really trust him until he was 7 mos - and even now at 8 mos, I don't trust him under certain circumstances (after baths, at other people's houses).
