ok, this has just developed TODAY. the last 6 or so times that oscar and i have gone outside, i think he wants to stay outside. as soon as i get him threw the doors to the building (he still has stairs to go up to get to my apt.) he LAYS down. he won't budge. if i drag him, he just stays on his belly. i don't want to give him a rug burn! if i wait and turn my back to him, he eventually comes. but, why has he developed this now? any suggestions on how to stop this bahavior? i just took him outside, and he even did it on the way out too. i exited my door, he layed down. wouldn't move! finally i got him going and then when we came back inside, he did the same thing. what is this about? he actually looks pretty cute and funny when he does it so, i can't help but laugh but, it is really annoying. he puts his head down to the floor too and just will NOT budge. he gives me this look like, "what?" how can i get him to move? i don't want to have to start offering him treats just to get him to go outside or come inside.

thanks for the advise guys. i just feel like i am giving him treats ALL the time. and i don't want to feed him all day. although, he would love that. when i leave, he gets peanut butter too, because otherwise he barks and barks. so, he is well fed :)
BUT, i must say that you guys are right. oscar will do anything for food so, for now, it looks like i just have to keep up the treats. the trainer came today and we worked on "leave it." it was so funny because oscar is such a food hound that it was his hardest trick to learn. he learned, sit, stay, down, ok, all in about 10 min. but, "leave it!" seems impossible to him because how dare i ask him to leave a treat on the ground! when i tell him to leave it, he tries all his tricks to get the treat. he sits, goes down, barks, over and over and doesn't understand why he isn't getting the treat. he had a barking fit but, by the end of the hour, he was walking by it. appicon silly boy. so, i think because of his high food drive, that you guys are right about getting him in and out with a treat. thanks! :D
