Anyone into dog shows here? :)
When I got Athlon, as he was very athletic (he could jump so high, like directly on a desk, without even the need of running), I was thinking about doing agility as conformation show is impossible for him (he's adopted and I have no paper). Unfortunately the disk hernia trouble he had in March stopped this project.

Do you belong to a French Bulldog Club in The Netherlands? How did you have the idea to participate to a dog show? Is it easy to participate? What do they require from you (your dogs, should I say!)?

Roosje and Gerdine: I forgot that Lotje and Dot were both shown. What fun it must be to participate. I must say that I chuckle to myself thinking about Ferris in a show ring! Although he is really beautiful I can just see him in my mind goofing around and not taking any part of it seriously. I would love to see how Sjaakie would show. Are spayed/neutered dogs allowed to be shown?? I don't know anything about the rules. Are Lotje and Dot spayed? Gosh...I can't seem to remember these things.

I also did show Tirsa once. More to know if this really was something for me and her. Well, though she did very good it is nothing for the both of us. Ok the showing is ok, but then I want to go home and wait for hours. Tirsa gets very difficult when she is tired, mainly towards dog. No dog is then allowed by her nearer than some hundred yards, if it does she starts barking you get crazy of. So it was once and never more.

Biggie has been to many shows...only as a spectator though..originally we were thinking of showing him but after going to several shows we decided that it was not for us. Biggie's breeder offered to show him too but I figure if I am not going to do it no one should (that is only my opinion though..hope i don't offend anyone)..besides...biggie couldnt be any more of a champion then he already is to his mommy:-) nope no bias here...

That is my opinion too. Though I have been to hundreds of shows, I never showed a dog and somebody said I will do it for you, but no, never. If Tirsa would be shown, I would do it and no one else. And indeed all our dogs are our own champions!

we "came back" from the 2 day show CACIB here in zagreb and Bono got both days grade excellent and was youth champion (i don't know how to say it in english) also both days.
we are very proud of him because this was his first show. the second day he didn't want to walk in the ring so i was a little bit  , but i totaly forgive him because he was also confused with all of those dogs, smells ...

Six months is the minimum age. And there is a Yahoo list called Show me for people who show.
You should contact your local club and start taking classes (I bet you know all this.).
There are a number of FrenchBulldog breeders up in your area that show.

We are in Indiana. No, I have never shown but I know that I can do it. The lady that I bought Lenny from was actually going to show him, but didn't have the time. She has other Franchies that she shows. Lenny is only four months right now. I am trying to get him ready by the time he is six months. He seems to learn really fast. If he's not ready, I'll wait until he is. I really wish I could get a good picture of him to show all of you. He seems to fit the standard very well.

After seven years of owning French Bulldogs I finally decided to buy a dog to show. Last January I bought a black masked red fawn pied puppy, took classes for 6 weeks to learn to show her and as of last weekend we are one point away from her becoming a finished champion. I didn't think I would ever like showing but it has been an enlightening experience and once Lacey is finished (maybe this month? appicon ) I will be looking for another show puppy. :o I DOES become addicting! -Beth

Unfortunately, I don't have the time or availability to get into showing..I live miles from anywhere even remotely close to a dog show..but if my circumstances were different, I think I might enjoy it..At least I know I would enjoy going to them and watching..

Tata,
I will never show; but going to the show is fun.Walking around and seeing all the breeds; talking to the owners and learning is what I enjoy.
PLus seeing so many frenchies in one place!!!
There is a show in Louisville that has more Frenchies than any show except the National; I bet they had 60 dogs..Beth was there this year and did really well.
I went two years ago. So many FBD's and pups..Like Frenchie overdosing..
Look at www.infodog.com .Maybe there is a show near you; you might be surprised..

Are any of you going to the FBDCA National Specialty in October?
It's in Sacramento (California) this year. I am dying to go see all those Frenchies in one place...

i have recieved some very helpful information about showing . i contacted the the original owner of rock-n-roll around the world (rockys father) she was very nice and we even talked for awhile via telephone. i sent her several pics of rocky and she said he was at the perfect weight for his age and his body was in the right proportions with height and length. but he is a bit nosy, which more than likely will change as he fills out. she told me to take him to the upcoming show and tell them i am a "newbie" and most show people are very helpful. she did say the reds are harder to point, but there are some judges that prefer them. she has a beautiful red/fawn "cruiser" that has done very good in the ring. so we will be going to the show in june as spectaters and hopefully i will be able to get someone to look him over and also see if it is something we will even like. thanks for all of your replies , it all helps when you dont even know where to start !
