Hi everyone. Question about excessive stubborness. Bella has been getting much better on the lead (ie NOT laying down in the middle of the crosswalk of a very busy street) but today she has been INCREDIBLY defiant on her walks. She is basically laying down every few feet and refusing to move  . I wouldnt be too concerned about this since she is still learning but a she is also doing a few things that are out of the ordinary. First, she is showing no interest in her food today (and trust me, my little girl loves to eat) and second, the one minute I wasnt looking, she had an accident on the carpet last night which she hasnt done since the day we rescued her and brought her home a month ago. While she isnt 100% potty trained yet (were in the process of crate training) she ALWAYS will go in the kitchen if she is to have an accident...Any thoughts are, as always, greatly appreciated.
Thanks!
Hilary and Bella
Ps-- Bella's inflammation around her scar where she was spade was a little infection i guess that is common after being spade (seroma-- spelling?) and its gone down substantially. Thanks for all your feedback on that issue.

Hilary....I'm not sure what the stubborness is about...but what concerns me is the not eating and peeing where she normally doesn't. You mentioned she had an infection around her incision......was she put on antibiotics? Carolyn

Carolyn--
The good news is she finally ravenously ate at about 5 today. The mediacation she is taking is called rimadyl. She has two more pills to take to complete the cycle (shes been taking 2x day for a total of 5 days). Do you think I should call the vet? Everything else seems normal but I feel like she is trying to tell me something with this odd behavior (disclaimer: i am a huge worry wart..)
Thanks!

Have you looked up any potential side effects of rimadyl online? As for the rest, it doesn't sound bad, but that doesn't mean it's not a cause for concern. I know that, when I first got Gigi & Lola, all they had to do was sneeze funny and I was fraught with worry. But now that I've got Tigger - well, I can barely notice if he's got a 4in gash across his back. No! that's not true at all, but you know what I mean ;) ... I'm just less excitable about what he's going through in general.
If this were me, I would wait another day. The incontinence could be a side effect of the spay or the rimadyl - or that she wanted a little extra attention at that moment. Sometimes things that we might not be aware of can effect a dog's behavior too. Again, if she were mine, I'd keep an eye on her and if I were still worried tomorrow - call the vet. The worst he can do is laugh at you for being over-anxious ... but I'd rather be safe than sorry!!

I think I'd err on the side of caution and take her in to the vet if the behavior continues. I have noticed in my animals that behavior changes are the only indication I have that they aren't feeling well.
Hope she feels better soon!
