hi everyone just a little story to share :)
i took manja to the folk festival for the second year in a row last weekend. For those of you who might remember I took him last year shortly after i adopted him.
Well what a difference it was this year!!! its probably both him AND me who have chilled out since then. I remember not being able to relax the whole time last year as i was constantly worrying and fretting about whether he was having a good time and if he was scared or cold or overwhelmed. As a new mum i was probably nore strung out than he was!
Well this year we were both festival pros  ! Me and a couple of friends who also own dogs (a poodle mix, a staffy and a pitbull) set up a little campsite with a fire near the river and the dogs had a blast!!! manja was sooooooo well behaved and was off leash the entire time. Most of the tents had a little doggy bowl outside and the dogs also had their meal times where theyd all sit together by the fire and get served :p One of the nights i went to bed early whilst the others sat outside by the fire and the next morning they said that whenever there was a bit of noise or action Manja would come shooting out of my tent (where he was snuggling with me) like a bullet, eager to make sure he didnt miss out on any of the fun! I really didnt have to worry about him much. He's almost a big boy now and knows how to wander around and come back to me. This place where the festival is held is doggy heaven :D dogs are allowed everywhere in the little village from the old pub to the cafe to the barn where the bands play. It was so nice to be in an environment where you can truly do EVERYTHING with your dog.

oh yeah and for those of you who are wondering about his spine problems... he's doing ok. His situation hasnt really worsened yet. His gait is just a little funny (as if he cant bend his rear knees). He certainly attracted A LOT of attention at the festival. The children absolutely loved him and by the end of the festival ALL the children knew his name and were always so happy to see him and give him a stick or a pat on the head :o
for a disabled doggy he sure can keep up

ha ha
he did sleep for days afterwards! In the car on the way home...in front of the tv at home... on the kitchen floor the next day... it was great, a bit of peace and quiet!

Kelly, our little Max just had x-rays on his spine and it wasn't good. Part of his spine is severly turned up at almost a 90% angle. He's nine months old now and shows some signs of weakness in his rear legs. We'll know in a day or two as to the name of this problem, but I'm sure it's Hemivertabra. Our Vet, who doesn't specialize in these sorts of things is not sure if anything can be done. Luckily, here in the San Francisco Bay Area, we have access to a wonderful Veterinary School, UC Davis. Also, Max has tons of support from several family members who'll work tirelessly to find the best treatment for him. If nothing can be done he'll loose use of his hind legs and all controll of his bladder. I asked the Vet if this happens can he use one of the wheeled prosthetic devices to get around. He said he could, but some people have trouble dealing with cleaning the waste. After a long meeting with family members last night we decided that as long there is no pain (and there is no indication there is any, this would not be a problem, as there is someone always with both of our Frenchies.
