Adora is going in for her spay surgery today and I'm having a slight panic attack. :o
My vet is wonderful but I'm still really considering going to the operating room and holding up the sign that says "NO ACEPROMEZINE" and taping a copy of the anesthetic protocol to her paw!
Please send some positive thoughts our way :)
Thanks,
Lesley

Lesly,
I know where you are coming from :)
On the front of Dari's chart in BIG red letters it says NO ACE.
When she went to the dr last thursday (this is the same vet I have used for over 20 years and the one who spayed her ) I told them "NO ACE". Like they might have forgotten...
IMO: it is better to be safe than sorry ; OR it is better to be a pain in the butt than worry all day long that some one might screw up.
fran who is worrying until you post that Adora is ok. :)

I know you'll relax once she's back in your arms ... till then, breathe deeply and know that we're thinking about you and Miss Adora-bull :)

Thanks for your well wishes!
Adora made it out of her spay surgery just fine :D
I am sooo glad I listened to Fran and brought the
anesthesia protocol! When I had asked before one of
the techs said they don't use Acepromezine. When I
dropped Adora off today I asked a different vet tech
to make sure "NO ACEPROMEZINE" was on her chart. The
vet tech proceeded to tell me that they routinely use
Ace + Torbutrol for surgeries. I freaked out, shoved
the protocol paper at her and made sure she noted
Adora's chart with all of the info and then talked to
the vet myself.
Here's a question for you all - when your Frenchies
have had abdominal surgeries do they have to wear the
e-collar for long? I'm thinking she can't even reach
her tummy if she tried...just wondering what your
experience has been.

Lesley....am glad to hear Adora did well. appicon And thank goodness you did due diligence and made sure she did have any acepromazine! (thank you, Fran for passing this important info on)
Abby did so well when she was spayed and we never had to use an e-collar on her. She showed no interest in bothering the surgical site but she slept with me and I was able to watch her closely. I would never recommend not using an e-collar but it was not needed with my girl. Carolyn

Boy, am I glad Adora is home safe.. And am I glad you questioned the tech.In follow up; tell the Vet as well.
Dari did not wear a collar.I was amazed that I could not even see (hardly) her stitch; and to my amazement, there were none to remove. The surgeon who did it is very skilled.

Hi Lesley,
I'm so glad that Adora did well with her spay appicon
Molly did not need to wear the collar after her spay as she seemed not to even notice her scar. But when she had the surgery for cherry eye, she needed the collar and boy was that traumatic for her! She stood like a statue as soon as the collar was put on - she was very afraid of it.
Tag-a-long question for everyone since we are on the subject of spays...do your babies still have a scar and if so what does it look like and how long ago was the surgery? Molly's spay was in 12/04 and she still has a scar.
Thanks,
Paula

appicon YAY appicon
I had more trouble getting my two to slow down after surgery than with any sort of messin' with their stitches! I don't think that they even realized that something serious had happened - they bounced right back!

No scar for Dari. The worst part was that she could not go to the dogpark for 2 LOOOOOOONG weeks......
