Hello everyone, my name is Pat and I have just joined your forum which seems to be very interesting and educational just browsing this site. I am not a dog owner at this time but plan the purchase of a frenchie most probably within the year. I have always been a dog lover and most times an owner but am recently retired and would love to have a new pet. I started researching the frenchie in 1996 when I planned to get a puppy but it didn't work out with the breeder that I contacted thru the classified ads (there were only 2 puppies in the litter and 1 died almost immediately and the surviving one belonged to the owner of the stud. I had such a hard time trying to locate other breeders, I decided to give up the search until I was retired as I was working the midnight shift anyway. Now I'm back. Pat :

Hi Pat, welcome to the group!
There are a lot of very nice people on the board who are knowledgeable about the breed.
I have a 6 month old brindle Frenchie girl named Adora & a 1 yr old APBT mix boy named Beckham.
Hope to see more posts from you soon!

Thank you all for the warm welcomes. Sorry it took me so long to post a reply. I love this site and intend to visit frequently like at least once a day in the future. In the past I owned cocker spaniels and shih tzu. I find this site very informative about the frenchie, I went into the forum on behavior and temperament. I would like to know your preferences for male or female and why you prefer that particular sex. I have yet to make my mind up in ref to the sex or color, I just know I want a frenchie badddd. I have checked out so many other breeds in the last year since beginning to think about getting a dog thinking maybe one smaller in size etc but I came right back to the frenchie. When I was planning on the puppy years ago I bought "The French Bulldog" by Steve Eltinge" in it I wrote my puppy's name which is the only thing I know about my future puppy at this time. I also love looking at the pictures. I appreciate any insight, comments or advice from the group as I have never owned a frenchie but was mesmerized by their expressions and antics as they prepared to go into the ring at the shows. Thanks again Pat appicon

Hello Roosje, thank you very much for your comments on the difference in the sexes. Just from your explanation the female appears to be better suited for me at this time. Even though I retired and home most of the time, there are no kids at my house (I don't have any grandkids) or other dogs or cats and I definitely want a dog strictly for companionship I don't want one that has to be catered to constantly. I want it to be a little independent. I have a parakeet that will be 2 yrs this year that I got when he was 10 wks old, he is very tame, talks very well and is free at all times . He loves to perch on m and talk, have some of whatever it is I am eating but he spends most of his time playing with is toys on his cagetop. I like his independence. If I'm in another room he will fly to me land for a minute or so and go on back to his cage. I hope my puppy will have the same type of independence and confidence. Pat :p
