I am looking for reccommendations on brands of harnesses for Rosie (our Frenchie). We've found that many harnesses don't fit frenchies very well. Add to that, Rosie pulls when we walk her, so we'd like to find a harness for her that puts an end to that. So, the standard harness model with the ring in the mid back doesn't work too well for her.

Any suggestions out there?

Thanks.

i just started with a trainer who recommended two types of harnesses. well, first, she recommended the gentle leader but, it won't fit on oscars face because of his short nose. it will fit on some bigger frenchies so depending on how old your frenchie is, that is what i would recommend. but, if that doesn't work, there are two new harnesses on the market that are anti-pull harnesses. they work this way because the clasp where the leash is attached is located somewhere on the front of the dog so if the dog pulls, it is uncomforable and it sort of turns them to the side. the harnesses are:

www.premier.com not sure what it is called. something like the easy walk harness

and the other one is called the sensible harness. a new modification of the sentsation harness. just google them. i just purchased the sensible harness for oscar.

hope this helps.

Aside from finding a harness that fits, could you try some anti-pull training? We do the stop and start: everytime the dog pulls, we say heal, and we stop walking. When she stands calmly beside us, we go again! They really do get it...sooner or later.

we tried a harness with biggie(i do not recall the brand it was size medium i recall) but have given that up and replaced it with Borgan's suggestionAside from finding a harness that fits, could you try some anti-pull training? This has really really been working well with biggie and in only about 2weeks i notice i am not stopping that much anymore at all (he is so smart!!) we are still working on when he sees another dog but all in all this technique has been great for us.

Dari wears a harness that fits very well; google Sylvan&sons.Thier products are well made; they stand behind what they make.

IMO, training is really the best solution to pulling.

so, i just wanted to let everyone know. i just received the sensible harness in the mail today. it has a clasp for the leash at the front of oscar breastbone (this is to help eliminate pulling). he has it on now, and we just went for a walk. wow, even on the first walk, what a difference. now, he can't pull, or else he gets turned sideways a bit, so, he has to stay next to me or a bit behind me. it is awesome! the only think is, is that when there is a child or a dog, and he does pull(regardless of the sideways action), he gets a bit twisted. but, i think that will work out once he realizes that he can't really pull. also, when he sits down and doesn't want to walk, a slight tug on the harness and he comes. this is much different that his old collar...he would have let us drag him for ages with that. so, just wanted to share my excitement appicon

Thanks for all the feedback. We went with the sensible. The real solution is to do some work on the behavioral issue though. Rosie is stubborn and after a while the sensible doesn't bother her too much. Wouldn't it be great if someone made a harnass that fit frenchies and other stocky breeds. It seems like most of the harnesses (except probably the step ins) don't fit frenchies too well.
