Hi there;

I am Eric from CT, and we are in the process of looking for an adult male Frenchie to bring into our home.

Luckily we are having our second meeting with a breeder looking for a home for her 2 1/2 yo brindle male. She is actually bringing him to our house to see how he does with the rest of the family..We are quite nervous about this.

Eric

P.S. If this doesn't work out I will beasking in here for suggestions on how to find a frenchie for us

The second meeting is tomorrow.

This young guy has his champion points, said something about after six times..like that was a good thing. She has bred him once, an now is looking for a home for him. We asked if that was the reason why she was looking for a home for him..something may have gone wrong with the breeding of him. She said no, and that she was breeding her other 2 yo male.

We are not going to breed him, we will be getting him fixed first thing, and hoping things go well with my other pets. Two other dogs. Both spayed: 3 yo aussie and a 8yo welsh terrier. The terrier was my parents...they both passed away last year and she needed a home..she is a great friend.

Eric,

I really hope it works..Frenchie boys are best IMO with females.

The breeder probably meant the the dog "finished " (got his CH) after 6 shows. That is very good.He is probably very nice looking .What color is he?

Thank you for taking your parents dog.You are probably thinking: why wouldn"t I ?. So many people don't.She is loved and secure..

Good luck. I can not wait to hear and hope all goes as you want.

As someone who doesn't yet have a Frenchie and is still looking. (I have a male 10yr old dalmatian and a male 4 yr old newfoundland.) I wish you the best of luck in getting your first frenchie and hope all works out with the brindle male. I admire you taking care of your folks dog also. Glad he/she still had family in you. :)

Welcome Eric! That's great that you are applying to adopt from FBRN. appicon

What is the male's name if I might ask? I'd love to see a picture of him.
It sounds like he'd have a great home if placed with you.

Take care!

Sorry to say it didn't go as well as we thought. The one thing that we never discussed with the breeder was the price, and after talking with some people from FBRN..we derived at a price that we should pay. They wanted almost double what we were willing to pay. So we declined..and basically said that if he stillneeds a home in the future, to let us know. It wasn't that we couldn't afford the price..but for a 2-3 year old..it was escessive

It was very difficult to say goodbye to him, but we know it was the right thing to do...

so continues the search.

oh no! i'm so sorry to hear that! it must have been hard to turn him down ... but ultimately you've got to feel good about your decision. keep looking and hopefully someone else will turn up soon on your horizon - i'll keep my fingers crossed for you!

[QUOTE=nmorgen]If he was just a 2 year old male he wouldn't be that much, but you said he was pointed and there lies the price difference. You get what you pay for. Pet quality frenchies are much cheaper.[/QUOTe.

When a breeder sells a retiree (as in this situation)MOST sell the dogs for MUCH less than a pup..Most retirees are CH.'s.

IF this dog was being sold as a BREEDING male then there would be a reason to have such a high price. And he would be sold to another breeder;NOT a pet home..But he is going to a pet home and as such is NOT being used for stud.

Dari's breeder sells his retirees for about $500; this INCLUDES the cost of the spay. Some breeders will sometimes give the dog to the right home.

There is a reaon that this dog is being retired. And not being bred anymore.

Do NOT be decieved by price..The petshops in NYC get far more than any reputable breeder for thier dogs..

There is obviously a reason; and one that we will never know.

I want to thank everyone for all their kind words and all their support.

In answer to reasons why, I agree, we will never know. And after reading the one personn saying about $500..they were asking alot more than that. Makes me realize that we made the right decision.

Thanks everyone.

I guess we start the search again
