i really enjoy watching animal planet, especially when they have the animal cops . last night it was houstons spca's biggest animal confiscations. they "busted" one puppymill and gathered up 210 animals !! animals living in filthy conditions. lack of food, health care, clean water, and L.O.V.E. ! quinn asked me why i watch that stuff when it makes me bawl my eyes out. then i look at rocky and cannot ever imagining him having to live like that . what possesses people to put ANY animal through such misery just for the sake of their own greed for a buck ! i am too soft hearted, but when i see these people on t.v talking about how they "love their animals" i just want to jump through the screen and pound them to a pulp ! its so rewarding to see the ones that have a "happy ending" ,but it makes you think about the majority of the others that dont. and the pit bulls that have to be destroyed because of the greed of their owners. sad sad and saddest ! so if anyone ever wonders why NOT to purchase a puppy from a puppymiller, just watch these true stories and see what these poor animals are subject to. no one should ever contribute to keeping these low life scum of the earth in business.

This isn't quite about puppymilling ... and I can't believe that Missouri is the only place this happens ... and I'm not sure of the exact name, but it's something about "animal cleptomania." You know, those people who own hundreds of cats - or 80 dogs - or 120 dogs and cats mixed. Private people, usually older single women, who can't seem to stop "collecting" animals.
We seem to have a case or two a year here in our state -- and those stories really choke me up. Usually these people start from a good place in their heart by taking in a stray or two. Then something clicks in their brain and they just can't stop. It's a mental disease, so I have conflicting emotions about it. They began by trying to do good for a lost animal but end up living in squalor where none of the animals are properly cared for. Lord! If you see the pictures of the humane society bringing out those animals.
But you know, it's the same with pictures of the puppymill dogs - and lost children wandering around after the tsunami - or people covered in blood pulled out of the most recent bomb site in the middle east - I can't take any of those photos!! They all break my heart with pain.

I think there is a major difference between "collectors" and "puppymillers". A puppymill is in it for the money and only the money, yet not having to spend anymore than possible to make it. Whereas a collector (as you said) does have their heart in the right place. They just can't stand to see a stray wandering the streets or so forth. Both are bad situations, but collectors do have their heart in the right place and are not in it for the money. That is my opinion anyway

while i do agree there is a difference between "collectors" and "puppymillers",the outcome for the animal is the same and the innocent victims are the ones that are suffering from it

Yeah, that's what I meant -- they're both bad cause the outcome to the poor animals is the same.
And to Evangelie, I don't know if it's hormones or what, but I started going through really noticeable changes after 27 - aaagh! It seemed like every year, for about 5 yrs, some new little quirk was added to my person that I hadn't experienced before. Aging!
