hello everyone :) i have been on this site for awhile now. have got alot of very good advice about the frenchie breed. have heard alot of different opinions on feeding, bathing, training, etc........but one thing we ALL have in common is the fact that we love our "babies" .i want to thank everyone for the help you have all given me. rocky was our first and soon annie will be here and anytime i need help on something i can come here and get it. with the new "baby" coming i thought back to when i first laid eyes on rocky. i had only seen a french bulldog on the dog shows. when i first took him out of the crate, i was just in awe of how beautiful he was ! i would like to hear how others felt the first time they set eyes on their new baby .................... :D

i am so excited for you to get annie! i bet you can't wait. i am already thinking about getting another frenchie too but, i am going to wait a bit just to make sure oscar doesn't get any crazier :)

as for your great topic...the first time i saw oscar and his littermates, i just melted. i didn't think it was possible, but, they were all about 100 times cuter than i even imagined they would be. and so tiny! it was the best. i have had him for over a month now, and i still look at him and think..."SO CUTE!" he he.

thanks for sharing quinnybear...it is nice to hear your advice, questions, and generally what you are going through with your frenchie (soon to be two!) i can't wait to hear more stories about the adventures you will surely have when annie arrives!

You bring back sweet memories! I had been researching, trying to contact breeders, etc for several months. We finally found a litter that turned out to be 45 minutes away. My husband took me to breakfast the morning we went to look at the litter. I pushed my food around the plate and couldn't eat a bite. I knew I had pick of two available females....the male had already been sold. The breeder brought out two pups and put them into my arms. They were only 4 weeks old....so tiny! I took one look at Abby and knew she was meant to be mine! :p I couldn't take my eyes off of her. She was obviously too young to take home....I didn't want to leave!!!! The breeder was so nice and let me hold her for quite awhile. My brother (our vet) came along with us, checked her out and said...."well, sis, looks like you have finally found your pup". :D :D :D

Love the topic!

The first time I laid eyes on Adora was in a picture - she was just perfect. She looked so calm and sweet.

When she arrived at the airport in her crate I said "hi Dora" (which was what she was being called), she gave me "tilty-head" and started licking the door of the crate frantically. It was too cute for words. She was smaller than I had expected, and so much more *everything* good then I could have hoped for.

:D

I'm sure you can't wait to lay your eyes on your new baby!

When I got Dari, it was an especially difficult time; my Mom was in the last stages of a termimal illness.Bill was in Indiana( a 2 hour flight ) and was still shipping then.
He sent her with her brother on Delta Dash; a special type of shipping;THE only way I would allow an animal to be sent. Look into this.It is very limited and NOT cargo .

Anyway,on the way to the aiport, I thought,"What the H*LL am I getting myself into?"Got to the counter and looked into the crate at these two pups. And that was all she wrote...

Dari was all wide eyed and looking around. Her brother was taking it all in.We got home and the cats were like what the devil is this?

After about 10 minutes the fun began; the pups started to play. She stole my heart;everything I hoped for and more.

The next day,my sister picked me up. She was sure that the male was really for me(It was going to a family near me. I held him till the money was wired)My family was taken with her as I was.

In the periods of lucidity that my Mom experienced, she could see what a very special little dog Dari is..

April 15 will be 5 years that she is with me.I have never regretted my descision to alter my lifestyle ONE bit. She is the best thing to happen to me.

They do stay with you..The first one I ever seen was proabably about ten years ago. I had a friend which was a breeder and at that time she was just starting out. She had went to see about some dachshunds at a well known kennel and ask me to go with her. There was (as his personal pet) a french pied bulldog running around the yard. Till that time I had no idea what they were. Soon as I seen him, I fell in love. Immediately I ask what he was and the breeder told me a French Bulldog. I knew right then, that SOMEDAY I would have to have one. I was somewhat saddened with the price for with raising kids and so forth (at that time), there was no way I could afford one. Well now the kids are grown and gone with families of their own, and my hubby asked me if for our anniversary this year, I would like to have a french bulldog. Needless to say I jumped for joy and didn't hesitate in saying YES!!.. appicon So that is how I was able to find my babies. Though it took awhile. I now have 2 beautiful ones. A black brindle (Frenchie) and a fawn (Ollie)

I have loved French Bulldogs from the moment I saw them on TV on a dog show. I told my husband that one day I would really like to have one. Then we started researching them. I found out how expensive they were- I never thought that we would get one.
Still, I searched for one close to home. One day I was lookinat the paper online, I found an ad for Frenchies. I called and talked to the breeder for awhile. She only had one puppy left. He was one she was keeping to show but an illness was keeping her from showing more then she already was. My husband said that we could go and look at him. I didn't know that he was taking the money with him.
When we got to the breeders house, she put the most beautiful puupy in my arms. I really thought that I was going to cry. My husband checked him out and said that he was a really good dog and he handed the breeder the money!!! I was so excited!!
For the first few weeks, Lenny would sleep on my chest just like my babies used to. Now, he is getting bigger and loves to snuggle on my lap. He is on my lap right now- though it is getting harder to type with him there.

My husband, Frank, loved Lenny too. Lenny loves him but is a real big Mama's boy. So, I started looking for a female for him. I found the perfect little white female for him. We called the breeder and sent a down payment. Once we payed he final payment, she was on her way. She only had to take a couple hour airplane flight. She was so little when we picked her up. I took her out of the kennel. Oh-my!! She was sweet. That is all we could say. Frank was going to name her Dot because of the fawn spot at the base of her tail, but Sweetie won over when we meet her.
Sweetie is a real Daddy's girl. I am so glad! So far, everything is working out really well with our babies. We couldn't be happier to found the perfect small dog breed for our family!!!

G & L also chewed rocks non-stop when they were teething!

I'd been looking around at smaller breeds for quite some time and thought that I'd settled on pugs or english bulldogs when I saw "Second Hand Lions." Not only did I love the film (so sweet!), but I fell in love with that cream frenchie that's part of the dog gang. Had no idea what kind of dog it was so I did lots of research and found out. Then I did lots and lots more research on the breed. After a year of hemming and hawing, I finally bit the bullet and said, "it's now or never," and a year later - here we are! One big love-fest extrordinaire!

sharon. i dont know what is is about rocks but our german shepherd has developed a rock fetish. he keeps dragging rocks up on the porch. and they seem to keep getting bigger in size too. i almost took a nosedive off the porch tripping over a boulder size rock he left on the bottom step. :( . he is inside more than out and he has plenty of toys both inside and out, but i could have just gave him a load of rocks and he would have been just as happy  and martina, i also considered pugs, they are so adorable ! i have always had pekes . i had toy since she was 8 weeks old and she passed three years ago at the age of 13. i just wasnt into dealing with all the hair brushing anymore so we thought about a pug. then we saw a frenchie on the westminster dog show and like you, researched the breed and thats how we came to get rocky. its hard to believe he is five months old already ! he doesnt seem much bigger than when we first got him . i think when your with them 24-7 you just dont notice the growth.
