the breeder that we got rocky from told us some things that got me a little worried. he said he has gotten several pups from russia and has two that have died. he said if they are put on a flight that stops in germany , they let the pups out and feed and water them and clean the bedding.he said that is where they contract things like the parvovirus. has anyone ever heard of that? he told us to make sure our pup is put on a flight that doesnt stop there. and that the pups have had at least two, preferably three shots before they are sent. i agree with the shots but am curious about them contracting diseases in germany ?

I'm perplexed at why Germany would be the place they would pick it up - unless it is due to all of the puppies being let out on the ground at the same time. While I suppose it is possible, I would think if they were to accquire Parvo it would be at their original breeders where they spent a lot more time. I could be wrong...

Quinnybear, I really must agree with Lesly. This sounds very suspicious..

Please go read about importers on www.frenchbulldogrescue.org and how the dogs got here with Parvo.

Another thing comes to mind. I am pretty sure of this.

The airlines do NOT take the pups (or adults) out of the crates at any time during the trip. Not to walk or feed. So to say that they pick up parvo while playing with other dogs or walking makes NO sense.

The liablilty issues involved with taking a dog/pup out of a crate are enourmous.Another reason this statement just does not make sense to me.

i dont know if rockys breeder was right or wrong about letting them out of the crates. he said germany, but annie actually did have a layover in amsterdam, holland. she flew from moscow to amsterdam, via klm(royal dutch air) stayed the night there. and flew from there via northwest cargo. the breeder would not send her until 10 days after her second shots and she was at least 11 weeks old. i know that when she arrived her crate was clean and the food bag on her crate was empty .northwest cargo said that they clean their crates and feed them while laid over in amsterdam. as far as letting them run around ,i dont know.

I did some research. If a flight is less than five hours then the dog is not taken out of the crate. If the flight is more than five the dog is walked and fed.But that is a "scheduled" five hours.. So if there is a delay, there is a problem

What the airline employees do when the dogs are out??I know that at Kennedy there is a special cargo area that the dogs are brought to.No grass and no specially gated off areas.

It seems that now as the import trade grows this will be a big business.Hopefully the dogs will be treated well.considering the fact that Annie was clean when she got here, that is a positive.

On the other hand , there are enough horror stories to fill pages.

I know some people who work "behind the scenes" at Northwest who say the pets are treated very well by the airline.

My breeder said the same thing, am assuming that we had the same breeder and she said that they let all the dogs loose together in Germany and that one contracted that disease and died.
