I cant seem to find any good websites that explain exactly what to add to the Raw Food and how much. Are there any Pitbull specific recipes that anybody knows of? I have my 3 year old Pit on Natural Balance Potato and Duck right now but he is always scratching and I dont knw of it is a food allergy, so would like to try him om raw. I have tried it before, but was supplementing half and half Raw/Kibble, and now know this is wrong. I have also heard that Pits cannot mix proteins, and I was getting my raw from the butcher but it was Chicken/Beef/Turkey etc... all mixed together. Any useful websites would be appreciated!! Thx

Hi Cyruss,

I can not imagine why Pits can not tolerate a mix of Protiens; but I don't know about Pits..

There are many Raw lists on Yahoo..if you do a search on Yahoo you will be able to do research and probably find the answers you need.I bet there may even be a breed specific raw list.

I have tried the DIY raw diet and found it PAINFUL. Too many trips to the butcher, too much slimy meat being dragged around the kitchen floor, no time too blanche and puree veggies, no room in my freezer...not to mention I could never figure out how much to give and my dog got fat and who knows if she was getting the right balance of ingredients...

SO, I bit the bullet and switched to pre-packaged raw diet (Prairie Brand) which has all the daily nutritional requirements for my dog (oils, veggies, eggs, migh quality meat, ground bone, minerals, etc.), plus it tells me how much to give, PLUS I just have to defrost 4 little chunks in the morning and three at night. So easy! But much more expensive. Do it this way if you can, or find an EASY instructional book (I DON'T recommend that Billinghurst guy at all - lots of info, but terribly written).

Feeding your dog dry food is like feeding your kids Kraft Dinner – fine for camping, bad bad bad as a regular meal! Who knows how long it's been sitting on that shelf! It's full of simple carbs (grain and white potato), too, which is not natural for a dog to eat.

Off my soapbox!

Brooke.

DIY??? Of course, do it yourself

Not me girfriend.. Bravo or Oma's is the way to go.. All chopped and frozen..

Cyruss,Get the book 'The Ultimate diet" it is an EASY read for all breeds; much easier than Billinghurst (like Borgan says) And some of the Yahoo lists can be pretty intense. But they do give allot of options..

The Bravo site www.bravorawdiet.com is a good starting place. Even though it is for the brand they have good information.

Reading and learning about raw is an ongoing process;continuiing while you feed as well..But once (if you decide) you switch , you probably will never go back.Like I have said before, you need to read and learn, though. Understand what it is BEFORE you make the commitment.

For me raw is the right thing to do.You must decide for yourself.
