 Have any of you personally rescued an fb from the French Bulldog Rescue? If so how was your experience and any other info you can tell me is much appreciated? I am considering filling out an application but I was unsure if I would be put on the backburner for not ever owning an FB before? We also have a koi pond in our super large 6ft fenced backyard. I think this might cause another strike against me. ??? Any input from you experienced owers?

when i was first looking for a frenchie pup, i contacted the closest breeder.she had a two year waiting list for pups, but she had a five year old for sale. i remember in one of our conversations that she said she had another couple interested in the dog but found out they had a large inground pool, with no enclosure.she said that french bulldogs are "head heavy" and cant swim. and being curious as they are ,she couldnt take the chance of selling her to someone where she would have to worry about her drowning.we would have bought her , but we really wanted a puppy. i was really impressed with this breeder because she checked out all the homes that she placed her dogs with.and keeps in contact.she also has an agreement with anyone she places her dogs with to contact her first if things dont work out and she will buy the dog back. the rescue are dealing with dogs that come to them because of all different circumstances. some of these dogs have been through "heck" and they try to find the best placement for them. i think the pond might be an issue,if it doesnt have a secure enclosure.having a big yard doesnt really matter as these dogs do fine living in apartments. we dont have a large yard, but rocky lives in the house with us anyway. you could contact the fbrn and they could tell you more about it.good luck ,i hoped i helped ......

Hi, thanks for your input. We have had our pond for about 6 years now. But we have been debating on whether to fill it in and sell our koi. There are a number of issues, cost, we live in illinois with cold temps and most koi don't survive outdoors in our weather so we have to bring them into a small pool in our basement every october through late may early june. The pluses are it is so very beautiful and relaxing to view after work. Thanks again for all your help.

ponds are pretty. my sister has two acres, her back yard is about an acre itself, they are avid gardners and it is like a park. they also have a pond. they had a large clear plexi cover made for it. because they have two boxers and one was always trying to "fish". now they can still enjoy the pond and not worry about the safety of the dogs or the fish !

Evangeline,
I am with FBRN and it does help if you have had a Frenchie before. That being said, there have been dogs placed with families that have not had frenchies, but have had dogs.
We get 300-500 applicatioins for each desirable dog; the dogs without problems. And because of that , the committee can and is very choosey.Usually we can find a stay at home parent for the dog.
Apartments are not a negative; but the koi pond might be, to rescue or a breeder.Frenchies can NOT swim. I know that the breeder I got Dari from would not sell to a home with a pond or a house with a pool if there was not a fence.Just too much of a chance.
Remember to put in an application for a specific dog for FBRN.There are 2 other rescues; I am not familiar with how they work.
What you should remember to , is that allot of rescue dogs have issues. That is why they have come into rescue.
Another way of getting a Frenchie is looking for a retiree..When a bitch is finished breeding the breeders want to find homes for them. These are wonderful Frenchies to own.

You have all helped me in some way with your comments and suggestions and I thankyou. In the meantime I will listen to all your stories of your frenchie families and know that sometime in my future I will be one of those lucky ones to own a frenchie too. :D
