Does anyone give their dogs sow's ears?
I have given Luna two - they last about 3 days...and she goes crazy for them! She pounces on them, barks at them, throws them up in the air, runs away from them, sneaks up on them...as if they were live prey. I don't have to watch tv anymore. It's The Luna Show.

How many is too many in a week? Are they unhealthy?

Brooke....I tried a pig ear once and it made Abby sick. My vet does not recommend them at all. I find them awfully greasy and don't like them around. Just my opinion. Carolyn

My dogs go nuts for them! But, we did have a bad experience and we have a no more pig ear policy back in place :(

Beckham (my notoriously sensitive non-Frenchie boy) had pancreatitis from eating a pig ear about 9 months ago. The vet said that pig ears turn into a paste consistency during digestion and some dogs just don't handle them well. But, she did say that others are just fine with them. The only caveat she gave was not to give too many since they are also high in fat. I believe she said 1 a week should be ok, but don't quote me on that!

When I give a treat to Abby and Ferris...I sometimes ask myself....would I want to eat that???? Seriously....pig's ears are not good for them. I also do not give those nasty hoofs. Carolyn
