Hello! We recently got our first frenchie, a four year old female, and right from the get go she proved to be a very picky eater.
She was previously on Purina Dog Chow (yuck) and she wouldn't even touch that when we got her home. I tried switching her to Taste of the Wild kibble and EVO canned but she wouldn't really touch either one. I tried mixing rice and sweet potatoes in and she'd eat a little. She was far from excited about any of it though and Id really have to urge her to eat.
She ate very little during her first few days with us. To begin with I would have liked to have seen a little more weight on her anyways so I was pretty worried she was going to drop even more weight. She also has a pretty awful coat and is very itchy and licking her paws a lot.
After failing with the TOTW and EVO I decided to try Natures Variety raw (chicken) and she ate it all up! I wouldn't say she was CRAZY about it but it was the first time she'd walked right to her dish and didn't turn her nose up but actually ate and ate everything! Her itching and paw licking has also gotten better now that we've had her awhile too and she's been off the purina (I've been treating her topically also)
So now after doing some research Id really like to keep her on a raw diet but Id rather not feed her the natures variety pre made. It seems like everyone does something a little different so I'm kind of wondering where I should start.
Would rotating different ground meats (with bone and offal) plus RMB and veggies here and there be a substantial diet or would it be lacking? I was thinking of ordering some ground from hare-today.com but I'm not sure quite what to get!
I'm a vegetarian myself so purchasing meat is very foreign to me! I honestly don't even know what cuts and parts I should be looking for at the grocery store vs a butcher.
Also should I be worried that my very picky girl is not going to like whole
raw parts?
any and all guidance very appreciated :)
