About two months ago, I purchased a French Bulldog from a BYB. I fell in love with the pictures of her that were posted on the breeder's website, and had been looking for a Frenchy for a long time. I spoke with the breeder on the phone first, and felt good about driving 8 hours to see the puppies (didn't know it was a BYB until we got there and saw the outdoor kennels).
My daughter and I fell in love with one of the puppies immediately. We aren't looking to show the pup, we just wanted a loveable lap dog, and my heart had always melted when I saw pictures of French Bulldogs, so I was thrilled to finally be able to add one to our family. I met the puppy's parents, and was very surprised at how large they were, and that they were both peach colored, when the litter was all brindle and white. The breeder assured me they were her parents, and that they were as surprised as we were that the two peach colored pups would produce a litter of brindle and white. We took our new puppy home, and we love her to pieces. I have papers for her with the names of her parents and grandparents. Her lineage, if the papers are true, is that she is 100% French Bulldog.
Today I took Penny to the vet, and I asked if her legs weren't a bit long for a French Bulldog... and he said he thought she wasn't really to breed standard, and that he thought she might have some Boston Terrier in her. Now, I love my Penny, and she is staying with us, but I am a bit upset with the fact that we may have been lied to by the breeder. Is it possible that the litter we saw did not come from the parents on the papers (that we met), and that she is a Frenchton and not a Frenchy? She is 6 months old, and 19 pounds. Her legs seem longer and she seems less stout than pictures I've seen on the internet of other French Bulldogs.
Maybe we'll never know if she's a Frenchton or a French Bulldog, but I would love to know for sure if the Breeder is faking the pups, or if she is legit. Is it normal for peachy cream Frenchies to produce brindle and white pups?
Of course we are keeping Penny because we love her either way, but I thought I'd see what the opinions are from people who really know their French Bulldogs.
