But here I am anyway! (I don't feel all that new because I've been lurking for a while!)
My dog is Penelope (Penny for short), a 6 month-old cream female.
franp was our gracious hostess when Penny was brought to us in December. Hi franp!

Tired of new members? Are you kidding???? You must realize by now how enjoyable it is to read amusing Frenchie stories!
Welcome! And I also know Fran...she is my friend from way back when Dari and Abby were very young. I have had the pleasure of meeting her twice and Dari once! Very nice.
Carolyn who is definitely owned by Abby and my bad boy Ferris. ;)

Penny is really pretty - but I bet you get that all the time!
Didn't you mention something about having a baby in your house for a bit Fran? Am I remembering that correctly?
Can't wait to hear the tale!

The baby was Penny's brother Dante. Dante, by the way is coming back on Friday and will be going to his forever home on Sunday.
Hopefully we will get together before Sunday so that the dogs can see each other.
Dante is going to be a show dog and is just so cute. When he was here the first time Emily was away. We took him to Home Depot.Bloomindales,Bed Bath and Beyond.Dari was , for the first time in her life, ignored.
I often wonder if they recognize thier littermates. Bill (breeder)say they don't.I don't know?

Well, the story of how I got Penny is also a good lesson for others who are here looking for a frenchie puppy.
My significant other and I have always liked ALL the bully breeds. I decided a Frenchie was just right for us, in size and temperament especially. We understood about the breed-related health problems and we decided to forge ahead. We decided to look seriously for breeders. I found some people online who were selling pups fairly close by. They sent pictures and told me the dogs were home-raised, underfoot in the kitchen, with children in the household and other pets, etc., long lines of good health checks, blah blah blah, all the stuff you want to hear. I decided to go to the place and visit the puppy in its home to see it move around, see how it was raised, etc.
They gave me directions, we took a train for 90 minutes and they picked us up at the train station and drove us to what we thought would be a house, but instead was a PET STORE!!!! AAAAARRRRRRGGGGGGHHHHHH!!!!! Not only that, but the puppy they were trying to sell me was NOT even CLOSE to any of the photos they'd sent. We realized we'd been totally duped by some unscrupulous people attempting to profit off precious animals. We told them that we were disappointed, that this setup was not what we were expecting, and then we left.
You have to understand, we had cash in our pockets and were fully expecting to bring a dog back with us. The disappointment was so deep, and I was so angry, and I just didn't know how to proceed. I felt I couldn't believe anyone selling puppies, so I gave up.
About 6 months later, friends of ours got an absolutely stellar black-brindle frenchie pup. He was so wonderful and perfect that it rekindled some hope for me that I could get one of my own. We contacted their breeder, expecting to reserve a baby in a future litter. Instead, we were told that a cream female was available right away. Within about 2 weeks, we had her. Just like that.
And, like HI McDonough said in Raising Arizona: "I think we got the best one." appicon

In retrospect, these pet store people used photos from real breeders' websites. And true to form, the photos were totally inadequate from the standpoint that the pups were always in someone's hands or they were closeups on faces, not standing out where you can see their build.
One of the things that totally sold me on my breeder is that he showed her to us on a webcam, so we could see her walking around.

Please realize that Emily getting Penny right away is NOT how it usually happens. They were in the right place at the right time.AND they were referred by people that Bill knew and I had already done a home check on.
Because they were referred by people he knew and approved that put them at the top of the list. Bill ONLY sells to people that are referred to him.And with refernces .
Cherrie and John knew the heartbreak that Emily had gone thru and on the chance that there MIGHT be a pup called. Penny just happened to be availble.
Emily had the right credentials and is a wonderful home. She was willing to wait till the right dog came along. This is key to why she got her wonderful Penny.
Reputable breeders will insist on home checks;references and either a spay/neuter contract or a pup being neutered BEFORE it goes to its home

I have heard so many stories from people who picked a dog from a picture on the web and had a completely different dog delivered. Makes you crazy with anger. So glad your story had such a happy ending. Your pup is beautiful and meant to be yours. :p Carolyn

Penny is a beautiful girl! Glad you joined the board - any relative of Ms. Dari's is a welcome addition :)
BTW - Fran, I do think they recognize their littermates. Adora sees her littermate Asia occasionally and they go NUTS as soon as they see each other through the fence at the dog park. They act like sisters, love to wrestle and then have a spat...then make up...
