overdoes/side effects/ or something else

Hi Everyone,
I am new here... (just introduced myself in the introduction section) i am worried about my 4.5 month old Quincy. He went to his first vet appt a week ago Tuesday. When there we found out he had some type of infection in his ears and is currently on an ointment that is applied in his ear twice a day. Several days later the vet called me to tell me that they found Giardia in his stool sample and prescribed 250mg of Metronidazole for 7 days. Since going on this med he has been rather strange, very lethargic, drinking less water, increased stubbornness (as in refusing to go out for walks) and today has has peed a lot but not pooed. I am wondering if anyone has experiance with this med in their frenchies and if these things are common. Just today also he has become much clingyer than usual, wanting to be on my lap to sleep etc. when usually he just wants to be next to me on the floor when I am doing something.

Any information would be greatly appreciated. I did leavea message for the vet and am not planning on giving him the pill tomorrow AM but instead at night once i speak to her.

Hi there,

I am sorry to hear your little one is not feeling well. My dog had giardia as well when i first got him as a puppy. Unfortunately, I can't remember what medication he was on, but I do remember him not feeling well generally and not wanting to eat much. The medication may be affecting his tummy which would explain why he's not eating well (and why he needs extra cuddles - my dog wants to snuggle whenever he's not feeling well). as long as he drinks fluids and take in some food, and poops, he's probably okay. the vet should have told you what possible side effects to expect. hope he feels better soon. kasia
