So for about the last 3-4 days my 4 month old puppy has bowel movements in 2 stages.

First, the stool comes out formed and firm. A normal poop!

Then after a few seconds, he will readjust or move and then have another bowel movement that is almost completely loose.

Anyone have any experience with this?

something outside without your knowing? Does he display any other symptoms - lethargic, etc.?

no other symptoms.

i do remember now that at the beginning of the week we went to a bbq so he probably got a few small bits of food or bbq sauce off the ground.

i described the symptoms to my friend who has a 1 yr old boxer (they have similar digestive issues as frenchies) and he said his dog had the same thing and it was colitis.

i'm trying this raw pumpkin trick (adding a little to sumo's food) to see if that straightens out his digestive track.

Did the pumpkin work - My little frenchie started out with giardia which we corrected with antibiotics. He still ends each movement with loose stool. I can totally relate.

the pumpkin started to firm up his stool but the 2nd bowel movement was always softer. then the little sucker ate a huge chunk of rawhide so that threw everything out the window. he's passed the rawhide and his stool is back to the way it was before i started the pumpkin. taking him to the vet this week for some tests.

will post the results!

it's a choking hazard for them. Might want to look into hooves or antlers as an alternative. Lovey really likes them. And her nylabone.

actually, nylabone is too hard as a chew toy. my mooi broke off a piece of tooth on a nylabone and had to have it extracted. the vet said most broken teeth cases he sees as a result of nylabone.

I just want to say thanks to everyone who chimed in with advice for Sumo. We took him to the vet yesterday and he was diagnosed with colitis. He'll be on antibiotics for the next 10 days. Aside from that he is a happy and healthy 5 month old 16.6 lb puppy!

We've completely switched him over to the Innova and he scarfs it down as much as he did his old food. But I am saving all judgment until after the meds are done and his poops are normal. Thanks again!

FortiFlora from your vet. It's a powder that you add to their food, puts live active cultures back in their system to keep them from that. It's worked really well on my dogs. I don't think I'll ever be without it in the house.
