First off, the crate might be too big.It should just be big enough for your dog to stand up and turn around.

Second , at this point, 5 hours is a LONG time. Try 3 hours. With an hour out AFTER he had urinated and had a bowel movement. Then get him good and tired.

There is a book called"Seven days to housebreaking your dog" Ithink that is the title. Try finding it. It is a good book. And Frenchies are HARD to housebreak.

Remeber above all: your dog is an INFANT.. Be patient....

These are COMPANION dogs; the operative word being companion. And puppies at the young age of 4 months can NOT be left alone for 8 hours.

They need to be socialized; they need to be walked. They need to be fed. They need to learn how to be pets.YOU need to be home at least at lunchtime with your puppy to play with it .

You need to play with it and get it tired,. To teach it how to go outside and not in its' crate. To learn not to bite you and to chew on its toys.

Your pup NEEDS you.Not a day spent in a crate.

Ditto what Fran has said. Your pup really is a baby still. Although I also work...my husband was able to frequently work out of the home and my son floated in and out during the day. This helped with the potty training. That being said....when I was home...I took them both outside at least every hour and tried to teach them the "go pee" command. They are stubborn and need our diligent training efforts. Good luck!
