Am I allergic to my dog?? Help!

Hello Everyone! I was wondering if anyone could relate to my recent problem. I've had my pup, Roy, for about 6 months and I'm only now noticing that after I hold him I get red spots on my arm and tiny little bumps that itch. I do not think this is a flea issue b/c my husband does not have any and I get them immediately after touching him.
I have a friend with an English Bulldog and she says she gets this whenever her dog is very dirty and he needs to be washed. Is there something about dirty Frenchies that could cause this or do you think I'm developing an allergy?

Have you tried washing him, and do you still have the bumps after washing him? Maybe you are not allergic to him, per se, but something that is on his skin/fur.

Just a thought, but do you have evergreen trees around your property? I have the same sort of reaction from that. Maybe your frenchie has come into contact with something outdoors that you're reacting to. I would agree that trying a bath would be the first step. Also, most animal allergic reactions seem to be more systemic, with symptoms like watery eyes, stuffy nose, sneezing, etc. :eek:

This happens to me as well with my male frenchie. Not usually when I am just holding him or petting him, but when we are playing and he his kicking/scratching me with his nails. I itch and get red bumps that usually go right away after I wash my arms/hands.

Whatever it is, it isn't enough to make me consider giving them up.
BTW, this has never happened with other dogs or cats, just him for some reason.
