First, We are brand new to the board. Miss Zoe joined our family on July 1st. She is nine weeks old, 3.9lbs and up to date on her vaccines. She last saw the vet on July 2nd where she was wormed, weighed and given the normal full exam. Her nares checked out great, and she was given a clean bill of health.

This morning, Zoe woke up and had a little cough that sounded like she had some congestion. Once she finished the cough, she was fine and ready to go about her day. The day progressed and she's been perfectly normal with the exception of these very sporadic coughs. She is eating, her heart rate seems normal, she is not overly warm to the touch, she's eating fine, sleeping fine, her energy is great and terrorizing the cat (who is an indoor cat). There is no discharge.

I'm a little worried about these coughs and am not sure if an emergency trip to the vet is in order or not. If it is, any idea as to what to expect would be great. We are trying to make sure Zoe gets the best life possible. I've waited a long time for a Frenchie and I love her to death.

TIA!

Just to update. Zoe has Kennel Cough, presumably from her transport from the breeder in Oklahoma to Maryland via a horrid company called Puppy Ship.

the news getting busted for poor shiping methods. I wish you all the best in getting your little girl healthy.

Oh jeesh - I was going to suggest kennel cough and then I saw your update! My dog was required to have a bordetella vaccine before being given a shipping healt certficate so my husband could fly him home. And the vaccine, by the way, caused an upper respiratory infection. I hope your pup will be ok!

I was going to say kennel cough too. We got our frenchie at 15 weeks from a breeder who said she had 'a slight cough'. Turns out it was very bad bordatella, we've been to 3 vets, tried 3 or 4 different vaccines and only chloramphenicol would get rid of it. Our poor baby Charlie is now 6 months old and FINALLY healthy. Plus it cost us a fortune and put her through the ringer. Hope your puppy gets better! Just because she's not coughing, doesn't necessarily mean she's better though. Charlie stopped coughing but her lungs were full of gunk, so that's how we ended up with a new antibiotic. Good luck.
