I didn't read anything else in this topic about this specific problem, so here goes...

Adora has been throwing up immediately after waking up the last 2 mornings. She wakes up, gets out of bed and then throws up. It's just liquid (clear-ish) with maybe 1 or 2 pieces of food in it. It's not a huge amount, but enough to make me wanna join her

Any thoughts on what this could be?

If it continues I'll definately take her in to the vet...

Any help is appreciated, as always :)

Thanks!

Are you putting her to sleep on an empty stomach? If so , this could be the cause. This is called :billious stomach..Her stomach is filled with acid and nothing to absorb it.

Try giving her a couple of dog biscuits before bed. See if that solves the problem
It did for Dari when she was a pup.

Yep, it's clearly some form of the acid reflud, sensitive stomach, billious stomach that these dogs are prone to. FYI: bright yellow is just acid stomach in case you see that - I nearly jumped out of my skin with fear the first time I saw that come out of Lola. You know, thinking the worst and everything.

Like Fran said, it's probably just age ... I also make sure to feed Lola a couple of biscuits first thing in the morning. I'm sure she'll be fine. Not that I need to say it, but don't hesitate to contact your vet if anything scares you. I fax my vet a list of symptoms and he gets back to me as soon as can telling me whether or not I'm freaking out or to make an appointment. That way he can read it in between visits and answer me as soon as he's able - without me actually coming in for a visit. I have used the fax techniqe with several vets and they really like it.

Ooh! Poor baby, that's probably it :(

I usually feed her at least 3x's a day with the last being around 9pm - we're night owls so Adora doesn't sleep until around midnight or so.

Are any kind of biscuit ingredients/flavors that are particularly helpful?

I think we have every type of dog biscuit manufactured in North America...

I use Triumph just cause Dari likes them and they are sold loose here.

So whatever she likes just before you put her in for the night.Give her a couple and see what happens.

Hi Lesley. I think I've posted my experience with Ferris before....but I'll post again. Ferris also upchucked as a pup...but it never really went away. He is being treated for esophgeal reflux (I think that is what it is called). We give him two meds....both in pill form. He has been on these meds for about 2-3 weeks and this seems to be working for him.

I would try Fran and Martina's suggestion...and see if you have success. I always thought this was a puppy thing with Ferris but it never went away. He also had hiccups a lot as a pup and I thought this might be part of the problem. He would upchuck almost always first thing in the morning and it was a small amount of fluid + a couple of kibble.

Let us know how you do with Adora.

I gave Adora some biscuits last night right before bed, but she still threw up right away this morning. So off to the vet we went...

You all were right on the money, vet said that Adora was just accumulating too much acid in her stomach during the night and that this not at all uncommon with puppies. Vet also said that Adora has a slight salivary gland infection from throwing up but it should resolve itself, just to keep an eye on it. The only thing we need to do is give her 1/4 tablet of Zantac or Tagamet 2x's a day, but she will probably grow out of this. appicon

Thanks again for your help, glad I had people to ask when I was letting my imagination run wild... :)

I'm so glad that you have some answers! It's great to have people to ask, but sometimes I still let myself get worked up about things - I'm still so new to young dogs. That's why I now fax my vet before calling for an appointment ... he can calm me down over the phone and tell me to stop freaking myself out .
