My 14 month old frenchie seems to be having some trouble with her skin. My boyfriend and I went away for the weekend and when we returned, she had developed small red circular patches on her tummy that didnt seem to itch too badly so at first i wasnt concerned, i just thought they were possible bug bites. We live in Las Vegas so we dont have to worry about ticks or fleas here. The pads of madison's paws have also been red lately as well and i noticed them bleeding a bit a few days before this all started, but this could be because we just moved in to a new house that has rocks in the backyard that she isnt used to. But then i noticed a red patch on her hip and when i touched it, her hair fell out around the area. We got her some oatmeal bath and used it for a day or so, but the area started looking worse with almost a pus pocket developing so I took her to the vet. He said he wasnt sure what it was and that it could be a number of things so he did some skin scrapings and we are waiting for the labs to come back. He instructed me to give her an antibiotic because she seemed to have developed a secondary infection in the area but wasnt sure if it was due to allergies, demodex mites, or possibly a fungal infection. He also told me to give her OTC benadryl 2 times a day and see if that helps along with treating her paws with a half vinegar/half water mixture to help with the redness and irritation and to clean them up in case there was a possible yeast infection. After a day or so she seems to be feeling a bit better, but I still havent heard back from the vet on what is going on and I am really worried! Has anyone had any previous experience with this and if so, do you have any advice that may help me? Any help would be greatly appreciated both by myself and madison!

Have you considered Alopecia? I am a human with Alopecia and when it is active my skin usually turns a salmon color and itches. It's an autoimmune skin disorder, and I know Frenchies have skin issues, so it might be something to look into. Good news is it doesn't do anything but make you lose hair. It might come and go, or the hair loss could be permanent, but it won't make your puppy sick.

It could be allergies, my Frenchie was fine until she was about the same age. If it is then at least you know it's 95% chance of it being something in your new home which gives you a good chance to eliminate things. Mable developed allergies to 12 different things almost overnight except food! Dust, fluff, pollen, feathers, mould, fungus that cheese & bread give off, soft toys, grass, ...... it was a nightmare. We were given steroids and benadryl and it all calmed down for a while. But for us as soon as we stopped it came back and we ended up seeing a speacialist and now after 8 months of injections she is on half a steroid a day.

I don't think yours is anything like this, but just try and think of all the new things your baby has come in to contact with now. The rocks, new plants, carpet, I know it sounds silly but the more you can rule out if it is an alleregy and flares up again you can trace it by elimination. As you were not there it's hard to know what she did or went near as some things don't come up or show for a few days, where others are instant. Hopefully it's just a one off and the benadryl will sort it out... appicon
