Hi,

Elmo was admitted on monday to the Royal Vetinary College for (we thought) surgery to his elongated soft palate. This has come about as he vomits/regurgitates several times a day. I had a call today informing me they beleive his problem is a hiatal hernia but it is very hard to formally diagnose this. The vet said it is major surgery and they will contact me in a few days once other investigative work has been carried out.

If anyone has any information or experience regarding hiatal herias they could share i would be severly grateful.

thanks

I have no experience of hiatal hernias... I do know the veterinary hospital though, and they've got some of Europe's best experts on staff, so you should have the best possible care.

I'm sure you've already searched the internet for information, and found most of these links (but posted anyway just in case they're useful):

Hi,
Jake had an abdominal hernia (same problem, just different location). He was born with it, and the vet repaired it while he was being neutered. He made out just fine, has had no problems since. Jake's hernia was small though, so it might not be exactly the same.
Good luck!!
