My soon to be 10 month old puppy is having soft pallate surgery in a couple of weeks. I wondered if anyone on here has any experience of this and can give me any advice, tips or information about the recovery?

Sorry Rory I have been away and didn't see your message. By now I guess you will be over the worrying stage after the surgery but if you are concerned about anything or want to ask any questions about what happened with my pup then please feel free. My Frenchie has made a fantastic recovery and I don't regret the surgery for a second!

Quito was neutered at the same time too Beckibus which of course means they only have to be anaesthetised once and they tend to not feel like running around so much either which is better for the recovery of the palate. He stayed in hospital for 24 hours so they could monitor the initial recovery. He was still pretty dopey when we picked him up due to the anaesthetic and the cortisone and antibiotic shots. He just slept the first couple of days which is the best way to let everything heal. I only took him out to go to the toilet and to get some fresh air for the first week or so. You don't want them to be too active and dislodge the stitches or cause any inflammation in the throat. After 3 weeks he was perfectly back to normal with the twice the vigour and energy than before! If you've got any other questions or concerns just ask x

Elmo had surgery on his soft palate and nostrils a few weeks ago. He ended being at the Royal Vetinary College for over a week whilst they undertook various test trying to ascertain exactly why he was regurgitating (twice a day on average).
Anyhow, they thought ity may be a hiatal hernia but it is very hard to formally diagnose this so a decision was made to have surgery on his soft palate and his nostrils in the hope this may ease his regurgitating.
Hes been home for about 3 weeks now and is absolutely great. he was ever so thin when we picked him up and was quiet for the next 3/4 days, not suprising when you think what he went through. He has now beefed up and is close to his weight before he went in and is definitly back to his feisty old self.
Thanks to everyone who posted any information. If anyone is going through similar feel free to ask for advice as im happy to help where i can.

That's fantastic Loosecannon, it is well worth the stress and worry for us and the dog isn't it, Quito lost alot of weight too but like you said after a few weeks they are fighting fit again, I'm sure they appreciate their new nose and throat xx
