Hi guys,
This morning Cali had blood in his stools, the diarrhoea we expected as we are slowly weaning him off the food he was on before coming to us. He doesn´t seem as playful as usual this morning either. Normally at this stage he wants to sit up on my lap while I´m on the computer but he is asleep on the sofa.....
Any advice would be grateful, I´ll see what the next stool brings also I think I´ll mix some boiled rice in with his food, it may help if not it´s a trip to the vet.

The blood could be from the transition to the new food. It may be too quick and his colon is being irritated. A bland diet sounds like a good idea for a few days. If the blood doesn't rectify with that you should get him to the vet. Hope Cali feels better soon! :)

Hi Dara - hows Cali doing now? It could well be the different food that has caused the problem, he could have burst a small blood vessel from straining. As you are gradually changing his food you could be over feeding, it's very easy to over estimate how much he needs.
The standard procedure is to starve young pups for 12 hours then start them on very small meals of white fish & mashed potatoes or well boiled rice with boiled chicken. Make sure he's drinking enough too as they can dehydrate so quickly, add some of the liquid from the fish or chicken to his meals for a few days.
But if he is not his usual self either then have a vet look at him, there are a number of things that can cause bloody diarrhoea, it's a good idea to take a stool sample along too.
If he has had a lot of diarrhoea dab some vaseline or sudocrem on his bottom so he won't get too sore. When I have pups I always buy in Pro-Kolin in for unsettled tummies & dire rear.
Best wishes

He seems to be alot better, he has been chewing everything that he finds so it may have been something difficult to pass.
I forgot what it was like having a puppy around the house, now everything has been moved out of reach.
He´s due for his final vac this week so I´ll get the vet to check him out anyway.
Thanks guys.
BTW he hated the rice so I added some boiled chicken and well it disappeared really quickly.
