Lucy developed two little white growths on her lip a few weeks ago. They look a little like cauliflowers. From the reading I've done online and on previous posts, it sounds like these are papillomas and like we should just let them run their course.

Today, though, I noticed that she has some little white bumps in her genital area. Is this different? Is it something I should worry about?

Lucy is just over a year old. We feed her Wellness Core.

Any advice appreciated!

Hi - there are many causes of lumps & bumps so it could be anything but if you suspect Lucy has papillomas on her lips then it is likely the ones on her genitals are papillomas too. They are more commonly known as warts, most of them go away within six months. However a few dogs may need to have them removed surgically because they keep getting inflamed, bleed all the time or they keep getting infected. But for your own piece of mind go & see the vet to be sure.

Our Samara had two warts on her vulva, she would rub herself on the carpet now & again which I stopped as they can make themselves sore, also rubbing can cause the warts to bleed. Other than that they never bothered her they bothered me more. I used to wash her down after she had a wee as the warts were near the opening of the vulva then I would pat her dry, it took a couple of months before the warts disappeared.

Best wishes

my mooi had a terrible time with the warts, and i think his extreme case got exacerbated after the vet (not my usual one) removed a couple without consulting me. unless the dog is clearly bothered by them, or unless they are really proliferating in numbers, i would resist removing them for a few months in the hopes that the dog's immune system will kick in.

they are highly contagious, so you do need to keep your dog away from other dogs in the meantime.

hope they go away soon, kasia

Thanks for the replies. We took Lucy to the vet, and he just pulled off one of the warts on her lip. He said it should stimulate her immune system to respond. We'll see!

How did he pull it off?

I just went to the vet today because Olive has a few on her mouth. The vet said that they most likely look like Pappiloma but the only way to be sure would be to remove them (which would require anesthesia- :( ). So I am tempted to wait it out? Olive is two...I don't think it could be cancer!

I just want to make sure I do what's best...
