My little Frenchie has floppy ears except when she looks up. Her previous owner (she was a rescue) said that, because of her allergies, she had to wear an e-collar (I think that’s what he called it, the lamp shade collar) and that it pressed down on her ears and made them floppy. She keeps getting ear infections and I think that it’s partly because her hears flop over (and, honestly, I love those big bat ears). Someone told me I can tape them to train them to stand up but I don't know if that’s 1. true or 2. would be harmful to her. Can you do that? Can I just give her Cosequin to help strengthen her cartilage? Thanks.

How old is your Frenchie? I think once they're past a certain age then it's too late for taping or anything like that. My cousin's Frenchie had an ear infection which resulted in a floppy ear and her vet said he could surgically "fix" it but she left it alone.

My Frenchie is almost 2 years old. I saw a holisitc vet last weekend and she said that we may be able to fix her hears by taping them and giving her Cosequin suppliments and that I should contact a breeder and ask them how to tape her ears. Since I got Sophie from a rescue, I guess I am going to have pick breeders at random and hope one of them is willing to answer my questions. I did some research online and I found how to do it for a German Sheppard but the vet said it may be different for Frenchies. Do you know of anyone who knows how to tape their ears?

Hi there - at this age you would be wasting your time taping them up sweetheart, say you did find a breeder who would show you how to do it not many frenchies like having their ears taped up. If you don't put an e-collar on she will have them off pretty quick & to be honest you would be putting her through it for nothing. The only time I would tape a frenchies ear up is after a haematoma had been drained. Forget about her ears & enjoy your little girl.

Best wishes

and the calcium levels off, his ears should pop back up. This is a common thing to happen.
