hey everyone
about 3 days ago manja started developing a little bald spot on his right cheek. It doesnt appear to be itchy or rash like its simply looks like the hairs just fell off and now you can see much more pinky skin. (i say on his cheek but its sort of on a large wrinkle under and to the side of his eye)
The other side of his face is fine.
Has anyone else experienced this? Im worried that its going to grow! please let me know if theres any thing i should apply to it or if it sounds like a sign of something serious.

thanks

How old is Manja? Is he neutered?
The first thing that comes to mind is Demodetic mange.
Usually when a young dog is about to hit puberty, the stress of the hormones can bring this on..

It manifests with a bald spot..
If this is mange do NOT allow the vet to do a "dip"..There are many other treatments.
Go to the vet and have a skin scraping done.

All dogs have the mite on thier skin; but if thier immunity is down, the mite can over grow. it is not dangerous, just a pain..And time consuming to get rid of . It is a sign of a weak immune system

thanks fran
manja is about 1 year and 2 months old so perhaps he is reaching puberty. The "patch" is about 2cm in diameter. If it is because of this low immune system due to puberty will it go away by itself? I will take him to the vet tomorrow just to be sure.

Take him to the Vet; Demodex does not go away by itself.. Has he been nuetered yet?
If not , and he has Demodex that will help. But it is a good thing that you have caught whatever it is at the beginning..

Good luck..

I agree with Fran, take him to the vet to make sure it isn't Demodex.

Beckham had the same thing when he was about 9 months old (2" circular patch of missing hair on the side of his nose - the skin looked flaky). We took him to the vet & luckily it turned out to just be from coming in contact with something he was allergic to. It took around 2 months for it to grow back completely.
