View Full Version : increasing small vomits & weird yawn - is this a palate problem?

My problem is two-fold, since I noticed the symptoms at the same time.

First, the yawn: Winston Churchill has been making this very strange yawn recently - he's extending his tounge way out of his mouth and curling it before closing his mouth. It's different from his stress yawn (where he doesn't stick his tounge out).

Next, the vomiting: If he wakes with a start, he throws up; if I leave the room & he can't follow me, he'll throw up; if he drinks water soon after a meal, he throws up. It is 1-4 times a day. (Different than his "play hard, drink lots of water hard" thowup - there's small partially digested food in these). He also makes a funny "uh-oh" look right before and sometimes just swallows instead. No retching - completely involuntary and sudden.

Winston will be 2 in October & I've not yet discussed this with his vet because he's also extreemly sensitive and I'm wondering if he's experiencing derivative stress from my own recent stress (quit my job at my law firm, so he's with me waaay more than ever before).

SO MY QUESTION (finally) IS THIS: is it more likely that an already sensitive dog is reacting to my stress and having random daily upchucks because we're always together, or is there some sort of physical thing about being a frenchie causing this?

Thanks in advance!

p.s.,
He's still playful, happy, silly, eating and drinking well. The upchucks are small and he doesn't seem bothered by them. I've switched to smaller meals 3 times per day with probiotic mix & I think it's improved a little, but not enough to be a conclusive solution.

Well, the yawn you described is Dutchie's typical yawn. He does this several times a day, so no worries there. I'm not sure about the vomiting, though. We had an American bulldog that had a palate problem and he would vomit occasionally. It was usually after a meal and looked like undigested dog food. Your dog does sound like he is overly sensitive from what you describe. You may want to check into some homeopathic remedies. They make varios treatmants-homeopatic, Bach's flower essences, essential oils, etc. Good luck!

Thanks so much!
I think you're right - he got in a lot of play time the past two days & there were no automatic upchucks. I'll pick up some Rescue Remedy in the event my own stress meter goes wonky again and he starts reacting.

Thanks again!
