View Full Version : worried about worts

Mooi had one of those papilloma worts in his mouth about 2 months ago. We were going to let it fall off on its own, as suggested on the board here, but the vet crushed it when we were there for another reason (without checking with us first - very annoying, this wasn't our usual vet, but his colleague. as you could imagine we were a bit ticked off). predictably, the worts returned, with a vengence! he now has two big ones (one in the original spot), and several little ones all around his lips and gums. he doesn't seem bothered by them at all but i can't help but worry that they might be a sign of some underlying health issue. he was fully checked out by the vet a month ago when he was neutered, and his health results were very good. but can these be a sign that his immune system is too weak? why so many - is that normal? should i be worried?
he is fed raw (only meat, bones, organs, no veggies), but he was on a 2 week course of antibiotics about a month ago for a skin infection.
any info, advice, or reassurance will be much appreciated. kasia

Hi Kasia - you were a bit ticked off with the vet, I would have gone ballistic. Did you put in an official complaint ?
The warts should go away when Mooi's immune system matures; I would keep an eye on the ones on his gums though as sometimes they can get infected from bacteria in the mouth, if they grow too big he may have problems eating.
My boy didn't have warts but he had epulis (begin tumours) on his gums, they were small at first then two of them decided to grow, he couldn't eat properly & they would bleed a lot, I had them all removed, the way the growths were positioned he had to lose three of his teeth as well. Sometimes these tumours can come back, but my boy's didn't.

thanks, i am checking these all the time to make sure there is no infection/inflammation anywhere. so far so good, and they haven't interfered with his eating/chewing etc. i hope the real big one will fall off/shrink soon, it's frightening:eek:

Hi Kasia - when they are staring you in the face it's a bit hard to ignore them, it seems as if they will never go away. You will just have to let them run there course. Keep on checking the ones on his gums, like you have been doing & as long as you don't think they are affecting his well being just leave them.
