I just saw photos of Paris and Bono and am in heaven! First of all, I love Paris' bed and what I can see of your house (wow!) - oh yeah, I love little Paris too :) Secondly, Bono has such a wonderful face - and boy has he grown!
Now, my question to you two and any other white frenchie owner is how have you prevented the tear stained face fold under the eye? Has that ever been a problem for you? Do you use a particular cleaner? Is there beet pulp in your dog food (great source of fiber, but causes the staining)?
I know this question has been asked before and I've tried several stain removers for Lola. If you have any advise ...

Hi Martina, I use a product called "Eye Envy" I bought it at a dog show. It works very well on light coated breeds that are prone to tear staining. The product is applied in 2 stages, you apply a liquid first(I use a Q-tip), then a powder. I have had good luck with it. There is a toll free number on the bottle it is (800)247-8667 if you are interested.
Also, I have heard that if you live in an area where your water has a high mineral content, it can make stains worse or darker. Our water where we live is like this, so I put a little bit of Vinegar in Paris' water, to balance the alkalinity. I was told by other breeders that this will help.
I am pretty fanatical about keeping her clean, being that she is usually inside so every morning and night, when I wash my face, I take the baby wipes that I use, and wipe Paris' face like a little baby. She loves it!!
Anyways, I hope some of these remedies are useful to you.
If nothing seems to make the staining go away, take her to her vet, she could have entropian eyelid, where the eyelashes grow into the eye, rather than outside the eye.

Thank you so much for talking about Eye Envy. I found a place locally that sells it and am going to get some. I had my frenchie Roy in at the vets and he looked to make sure no problems with the eyes, etc. so I am going to give this a try!

I know my Sweetie is only 4 months old but we haven't had any problems keeping her eyes clean. The folds are as white as the day she arrived in our lives. I bathe her at least once a week and wipe her face off every day. We have bought some stuff for the folds but have never used it. I'm sure we will have to some day.

that is a good point...does the tear staining develope as the frechies are older. oscar is only 4 months as well and doesn't have it but, i am guessing it is because he is still so young?

i noticed that biggies staining did not necessarily get worse as he got older but it does get worse depending on the time of the year..during the fall when all the leaves are down and its damp out it is really really difficult to keep his folds clean..we use medicated wipes from our vet (they look like stridex pads) they work pretty well..aside from that i try to use the non scented, non aloe, plain babywipes on him everyday...
