I was wondering what the proper age is to have my female frenchie spayed?
Although she is beautiful (aren't they all) and would make a great pride, I don't want to put her through all of the drama and risk.
Also, if I have her spayed, could I still show her? I read somwhere that I could not show her if she was spayed......
Thanks!

In America only intact females can be shown. Is your dog show quality? There is more to show quality than just being beautiful.Ask your breeder.
Now as to when to spay; it is safe to spay as early as 8 weeks and many reputable breeders are spay/neutering pups just before they go to thier new owners at the recommended age of 12-14 weeks. This is to prevent unethical people from breeding pet quality dogs.Or the dog falling into the wrong hands.
The advantage of spaying BEFORE the first heat is immense. A bitch who is spayed before the first heat has a .05 % chance of mammary cancer; after the first heat it goes up to 5% ; each heat thereafter it goes up exponentially.
Then there is the problem of pyometria; a fatal disease.
So the earlier you spay the better..
