HI I have a few question. In two weeks I will be going to pick up our new puppy. I will be meeting them at the airport and then flying home. I have never traveled with a puppy before and will be carrying it with me on the plane. I know the basics about keeping the dog underneath the seat. You can't take the dog out of the carrier during the flight, etc. But, are there little things that I can do to make my flight a little more comfortable for both parties, me and the dog? I am a little nervous about doing it for fear that the puppy will start whinning during the flight, etc. Also, I have two layovers along the way and it will be a long day...... Any suggestions will be appreciated. Thanks...

Hi you must be so excited. Make sure they bring a blankie or a towel with your puppy's mom and litter mates scent on it that you can take and keep in the carrier while traveling. It will give your pup a scent that they recognize and help to keep your pup relaxed. Try to stay calm your puppy will be able to pick up on your energy. I'm sure everything will turn out great and have fun with your new baby. Make sure to post lots of pictures.appicon

When we picked up Louis, this is exactly what we did too - if they have something that smells familiar to them they are much calmer. And being a small puppy, you will be amazed at how much they can sleep  Good luck and I look forward to seeing your baby on the site ;)

I have emailed the breeders and they will be sending a blankie with her. Her name will be Sophie... I also liked the name Chanel. She will be a fawn colored dog.
One last thing. I have tried many times to upload pictures but have not been successful yet. Any tricks that I am missing. Thanks.

I love the name Chanel! My tip would be to bring a travel pack of baby wipes just in case...

So, How is your new girl doing? The anticipation of waiting will drive you insane. Can't wait to see more of both of you!

I was SO nervous before I flew home with Boykins last summer, but she did beautifully on the plane. I was the one who was a wreck!
I lined her travel carrier with a wee-wee pad and the put a towel over that...Since the pads are super-absorbent, it might be helpful to have that as well. If you have enough time, it might be helpful to walk Sophie around outside and/or see if you can run her a bit. That should also help her tire out so she sleeps more.
Good luck!

I actually have her at home now. She was very good. I walked her around between flights alittle. And, she was very sleepy during the flights. We actually had a huge layover in Denver due to the weather. But she did well. She is very cute. She loves to tease her older sisters. She wants to be just like them. Thanks for all your recommendations. I did try many of them.

Ok... Sophie is such a tease to the older dogs. She loves to run up to them and tease them. Nip at them and then try to run off under the furniture. She can be so tiring but has a great personality. She drives the older dogs mad.... :p

Sounds just like Mackie!! We have two older dogs who could care less about rough housing so she just stands in front of them barking. After giving up on them playing with her she runs a racetrack pattern all around my house huffin' and puffin'! She's sooo cute to watch! My mom says she has a face that you never get tired of looking at! We agree!!

I think the problem is that they try to rough house with her too much. She nips at them and they do it back. She has a few nip marks. Not too hard just . I just need to stop it.
