Hi - I am new to the boards and have a concern about my little guy and wanted to see if other frenchie owners have experienced the same thing.
A little more than a week ago Frankie woke up at 6:00 am choking, I did not realize at first he was choking so he ended up having a seizure from lack of oxygen. Once we cleared his throat he was fine. Of course we rushed him to the 24 hr. animal hospital to have him checked and then he spent the day at my vet receiving oxygen and IV fluids.
Two days later he woke up the same way, only this time he did not have a seizure because we caught it in time. Both times he was choking on excessive phelgm. Again, we brought him to our vet who at this point diagnosed him with an Upper Respitory infection. He stayed at the vet for two days receiving IV antibiotics and fluids. He has since been released and will be on antibiotics for 14 days.
Well, it has been about a week and no further episodes. We go back tomorrow for a recheck, but ever since, I now sleep with him every night and wake him up every three hours to get him moving around so nothing accumulates in his throat/mouth.
Tomorrow during our recheck the dr. mentioned he was going to talk to me about the possibility of having surgery in the event that this is all due to an elongated soft palate. I was just wondering if anyone has had any similar type of experiences? Also, if this would all of a sudden just happen, he seemed fine, and neither of his parents have an elongated soft palate ( I double checked with the breeder). All I know is that I hate feeling like every morning he is going to wake up choking or even worse me not be there when he is to help him. Waking up every threes hours is tough.
Thanks in advance for your thoughts.
