every frenchie is different, we brought Belzie home when she was 17 weeks and it took her months to really start responding to her name

We brought Sam home in August, and he picked up his name within days. - It is amazing to me that with somethings he is way quicker than Belzie, because she is the one that is overtly intelligent, and Sam is the one that acts as dumb as a post:lol:

I read a book about dogs called "How to be Your Dogs Best Friend" by The Monks of New Skete. They also have a book called "The Art of Raising a Puppy" which tells mostly about good places to get a dog.

"How to be Your Dogs Best Friend" said they almost always name their dogs a short 2 syllable name. Names that end in a soft A or a hard O are excellent. For instance Sarah , Sandra , Bosco , Laika , Elko , ect.

They also say there's nothing wrong with the tradional Spot , Rover , Rex. Although they said they a had a quicker response from puppies with 2 syllable names.

Never use names they rhyme with commands

They don't recommend "cute" names they my sound quaint on puppies and lose there charm when they get older. For insance Cupcake , Huggy , Baby , ect.

They also dont recommend names that emphasize a dogs physical characteristics.

They also know some city dwellers that name there dogs macho names like Chopper , Rip , Lance , and Wolf. Remember you have to live with your dogs name.

The Monks were on TV, I think Animal Planet, with their training techniques and their German Shepherds. Very interesting except for that monastic part.

I've also read that dogs should not have one syllable names because commands should be one syllable and it is less confusing for the dog.
