We just started our puppy, Baxter (5 months old) on a raw food diet. We're using Nature's Variety Raw Instinct kibble and the frozen chicken and bones medallions. He's only been on this diet for about a week, but prior to the change his eyes teared pretty much constantly. Now for some reason he's tearing much less. Is this from the change of diet???

Hi. I have both my dogs on raw for a month now.
I had the same reaction in on of my dogs and i thought it was allergy. After some study i discovered that this is a sign of detox. After the eyes there was a big bump on his back,he was lethargic and i was going nuts. Finally there were all signs of detoxification.
Now this was with my dog. Yours might be this or might be allergy, so do your research.
Make some researh for detox on the net and u will find everything. Also try Dr Pitcairns book is brilliant.

We have both of our girls on the same diet as Baxter. We use the grain-free freeze dried kibble mostly, and give the medallions on special occasions. I know that raw helps with seasonal allergies and sometime that can be what makes them tear. Our girls still get eye boogers even though they eat raw. They have pretty bad seasonal allergies though. I'm so glad you like the raw diet, we really have a had a great experience with it.

Probably :) Or more specifically, if it's related to the food, it's from ceasing to feed kibble. Nice to see those sorts of improvements, isn't it?

Thanks for the feedback. It was great to see his eyes stop tearing.appicon They'd done it since we got him at 3 months of age and the only change to his lifestyle has been the introduction of the raw diet. His coat is getting really nice and glossy. Seems more energetic also. Such a beautiful little boy!
