I will be going to an upcoming show where my breeder
is showing. I would like to be able to bring my dog, but
I don't know what is proper. She said how would anyone
know he wasn't showing, but I imagine his deflated
scrotum might give it away. This is a non-benched
show, but other than that there were no guidlines
in the program online. What do ya'll think?

If you go to the premium list you will see that dogs who are not showing are not allowed..
If an official of the club sees you,you can be asked to leave..
Bringing a non-entered dog to a show is actually very bad manners...IMO.

I glad I asked, because I don't see that info posted anywhere,
I guess I know who gets to sleep in that day. The show world
is so foreign to us non show people. All I know is what I see
on the TV(eukanuba and westminster) and movies (best in show)

I've seen people denied entrance to a show for bringing a dog that wasn't entered. This dog was obviously not showing but the Cleveland show checks documents.
However, I'd suggest not bringing the dog regardless because you'll enjoy it more if you don't have to worry about your dog. Show dogs don't 'play' and your dog will be inclined to think it is a play group. With no dog, you'll be better able to get closer to other dogs (yes, even other breeds) and talk to their owners/handlers. As you said, it is a foreign world to a newcomer and you'll be freer to enjoy it. A good show will have lots of shopping so you can buy Gravy a treat and assuage your guilt. When you understand them, it is rather interesting. Please note that it is not considered to be good manners to start giving odds on who you expect to take Best of Breed.

I will definetely leave FRANC home, and arrange
for him to visit the breeder another time. Gravy
is actually my nickname. It is really a different
world at the shows, hard to find, rarely advertised.
And yet its the only way some breeders will ever
talk to you. I guess I just got really lucky.

Sorry about that. Actually I sort of remember that the dog wasn't called Gravy (although I am curious why you chose that for a nickname) but I couldn't remember where to find his real name.
Actually, the shows are not hard to find. Have you used www.infodog.com or www.akc.org to find local shows? Great ways to find what is happening near you because, as you said, the shows don't advertise in general public media.
