Thank you - she was 4 1/2 months old in that picture, she is 10 months old now. She has filled out a lot since she was a baby and is looking really good. I'll try and post some more pics - there is one more pic of her in the puppy photo section taken when she was 10 weeks old.

Thanks for the compliments on Mia... She is precious - she is the love of my life!
Regarding her color - she is Red and her color seems to lighten and darken from time to time. Right now she is a darker Red....
The breeder was Icon French Bulldogs in Glendale California, USA. I got real lucky in finding her - I had been looking for a long time- but she was worth the wait (like most ladies are..... :) )

Ken.....Mia is just lovely....but you already knew that, didn't you? :p
Is she your first Frenchie? If so...what made you choose this breed? I have two Frenchies and don't know how I ever lived without one. Carolyn, Abby (3 1/2 yrs) and bad boy Ferris (2 yrs old).

Carolyn - yes Mia is my first Frenchie. I had never heard of the breed until a friend of mine got one and she used to bring hers over. I was really taken by their unique personality - I was laughing constantly.... They have such a comical personality and are very expressive / affectionate. Sometimes I look at Mia and I don't think she is really a "dog" - she is a little girl trapped in a fur coat - (I know Mia believes that to be true anyway)

what a perfect expression ! I reckon my manja is a little boy trapped in a fur coat! Mia is very pretty indeed.

Ken....I sometimes think that Frenchies are likened to a well guarded secret. I try to explain their personalities but people just don't realize how hilarious they are until they have met one! Try having two!!!! When it is play time in my house...it sounds like I have a herd of thundering buffalo loose. You know exactly what I am talking about.... :D
Been thinking about joining the San Diego group one of these days. I'm not far from there. Carolyn

Carolyn - that is so true.... I have been think about getting another one. If I do, I want an all black one. Are yours considered Black or Brindle? They are very cute!!
I am going to try and make it to the San Diego get together on the 12th of Feb - maybe I'll see you there.

HI Ken,
First your BMF is a really pretty girl. BMF is one of my favorite colors.
Black is not an acceptable color in Frenchies. So if a "breeder" is offering you a black frenchie;RUN do not walk from this personl
NO reputable breeder intentionally breeds Black frenchies. Go to www.AKC.org and then to FrenchBulldogs and read the breed standard. It will tell you ,besides black, what colors are not allowed.
Carolyn
23rd January 2005, 01:55 PM
Ken: Fran's right...black is not AKC acceptable. Abby is black/white and since I was not going to show...it was ok with me. Ferris is brindle.

I would be looking for a companion and don't plan on showing.

23rd January 2005, 02:23 PM
Ken,
Even though you are looking for a companion/pet ;all of us on this board have pet quality dogs; NO reputable breeder breeds all black Frenchies.
A reputable breeder is at all times breeding to meet the breed standard. And that breed standard specifically says no solid black or white or mouse.
I have NO idea what color mouse is.

I'm not sure about who the breeder was - maybe James Dalton. Have you heard of him?
I am not currently looking for another Frenchie, but if I were I would want a black (or brindle). Mia keeps me pretty busy these days!
here is another cute pic from James (http://pg.photos.yahoo.com/ph/kwboyce/detail?.dir=5bb9&.dnm=d660.jpg&.src=ph)

Yes, James is Fabelhaft. The GP is not James , I thought it was a male called GP I'm the Boss of JustUs. I believe he was bred by Kathy Dannel. The picture looked like the pups were out of GP.
James breeds some very nice dogs.

He is a great guy, very helpful. - I didn't get Mia from him (she came from Icon French Bulldogs here in CA) but I spoke to him a lot during my search. He is very knowledgeable on the breed and very nice!

Ken...LOVED the pictures! Mia is just lovely. Could it be that she is very spoiled? :p
You know...I believe all puppies are cute but honestly...these Frenchie pups just take the cake. How do you keep her bedding so clean????? Thanks for sharing. Don't you wonder how you existed without her? :D Carolyn

Carolyn - I can't imagine anything more cute than a French Bulldog puppy! Yes, Mia is spoiled rotten - a true princess....
Maybe we can meet up at one of the San Diego events and get our frenchies together - that would be fun.
Ken
PS What do you feed yours? I am using Nutro brand dry puppy food - most of the time I will mix it with some fresh cooked chicken (share some El Pollo Loco - Mia loves that place) :D
Carolyn
25th January 2005, 06:50 PM
Ken: Abby and Ferris were on Nutro High Energy kibble and did very well on it...my Abby is very active and this kept her in good weight. I switched them both probably 3 months ago to Wellness adult kibble. Wellness is known to have "human grade" ingredients and no corn, I believe. The transition went well....Abby is still in good weight and Ferris has less gas. I do mix it with bits and pieces of either fresh roasted leg of lamb :D OR bits of turkey thighs I cook in the crock pot..... :D :D :D
I'll keep an eye out for the next get-together and maybe I'll see you there. Carolyn

Mia and Bait are probably related?? Bait looks cute too - I would like to see more pics of Bait - I love the Red ones, but they are all cute!!

Mia is beautiful, she looks a lot like my Bait, who is 2 and also from Icon. I haven't seen any reds from any other breeders.
Reds are called Fawn; most of the time they have a black mask. Dari has a half sister; RB's Cooper Penny who is a BMF.
You do not see them allot because they are hard to finish(get a Ch).But bmf is a favorite of mine.
There is one breeder; Rock and Roll Frenchies that has a Ch who is a deep fawn with a black mask; a male. A gorgeous boy.
Bait's Mom

KWb - Yes, I think Bait is Mia's full sister from an earlier litter. Her pics should be up soon. She will be 2 in April. Their dad is supposedly the first red champ, I'll find out his name - maybe it's the one you know of franp. Bait was the only red in her litter - had 6 very light fawn brothers!
I keep in touch with Lori, the breeder and she told me recently that a full sister of Bait's named LuLu was stolen in early Feb. from Santa Monica, CA. She was about 10 months old I think, probably a sister of Mia. I'll try to post a pic of her incase anyone sees her - the reds are pretty rare. It's a sad story, but a reminder to us all that these little guys are so special, people will steal to have one :(

THis may sound harsh; but most of the time when a dog is stolen (regardless of the breed) it is due to the owner's carelessness. Dogs are left in the backyard alone or in a car alone.
We have an expensive ,rare and appealing breed.People want them and some scum will do anything. If you have a male that is intact, then it is even more attractive to scum to steal.
I see jackasses in NYC who tie their dogs up when they go into stores "only for a minute and I can see my dog" Yea right. NEVER do I leave my dog. If she can not come with me, then I do not go..
I am curious as to this"first fawn " to be a ch; they are difficult to finish but there have been many over the years. Just not as many as brindles or cremes.

6th March 2005, 01:21 PM
I agree about how dogs get stolen. I have smuggled bait into many grocery stores and never leave her in the car. She will lay down in my purse, but that little body gets heavy REALLY quick!
I will find out her dad's name - I saw the pics of his championship, I think it was a big one, but I'm clueless in that world. I think the breeder told me that the point was that he was truly RED and not just fawn. I know there might not be a defined AKC difference, but I've seen a lot of fawns, and they don't look like Bait or Mia (just as cute), but these guys are true redheads - in the sun, the coat sparkles different shades of orange.

There are several True Reds; one of the most prominent is a dog name Theo from Baohuao kennels in Arizona.
They do finish; Theo is one of the more prominent; he was number 14 one year I believe..There have been several true reds over the years to finish.
The color is more common with the mask and is becoming more popular.Judges go thru cycles and right now seem to like the cremes the best.

Thanks for the info. I don't think the dad's name was Theo, but I'll find out. I do know the dad was from another breeder, maybe the sprem was shipped? I heard they're doing that - pretty crazy.
Anyway, I love all of the colors. We want to get a second one, and I just don't know what to pick!
Everybody on this forum is so cute. Being in LA, it's becomming a little trendy, I'm seeing a lot of tall-skinny-boston-looking frenchies.
We haven't had her spayed yet - we love her so much, we thought we'd like to breed her just once, but now I've heard so many horror stories.
Does anybody out there fly with their frenchies? She seems to pant a lot in the air, but won't drink - is it bad for them?

The tall skinny dogs you are seeing are Russian Imports. People are buying them because they want a dog NOW. The Russian dogs are very different in looks and temperment from the American dogs. Most of the dogs we get in Rescue are Russian; aggressive and large.
Your dog pants in the airplane because she is nervous.
As for breeding;PLEASE leave that to the breeders; this is NOT something for an amatuer. If she were breed quality the breeder would have sold her to a show home. NO reputable breeder would breed with you. You have not done any health testing on her. And birth is C-section only.
Many times milk does not come in and pups must be tube fed.Mortality is high. The bitch can die. The first 2 weeks is 24/7 and you may not even get a viable pup. The cost can be in excess of $2500. Buy a pup.
Please leave the breeding to the breeders. You are happy with her; go back to the breeder and get another. They do this and are professionals at this

Baits Mom - Mia has been on the plane with me several times - I have a carry on bag for her and she is fine. She just lays down and sleeps - most people ask me if she was sudated (she has never been). I think because I had her on the plane with me when she was very young, she understands the routine. To be honest I still think it is hard on her - just as it is for me too - but I don't like being without her..... Mia is also getting a little big now and she likes to fly First Class - which is nice because there is more room. We should contact Lori at Icon, but I think Mia and Bait are sisters. Mia just turned one year this week birthday .
I believe that Mia and Baits dad is named Cody and their mom was Desi (Lori would need to verify). I have pictures of both - Mom and Dad, its' funny I even have baby pictures of Bait and her sisters that Lori gave to me while I was searching for my Frenchie. (small world).
