My puppy, Jacques, is just now 11 weeks old, he is just getting over an upper respiratory infection and is becoming much more active. We have had him for just over two weeks. My question is that is his behavior toward other dogs normal.

On thanksgiving he went ot meet his cousin a Golden Retriever and he dicided that the GR was his personal jungle Gym, nipping at feet, standing up on his back legs while balancing on the Gr's back. The GR didn't even try to stop him... A note should be that the GR is the most passive dog on the planet who wishes to be with humans rather than other dogs.

The second incident was when we take him for walks. He will follow just fine on a leash or without a leash on. Occasionally he will stop and smell, and try to be stubborn. However, when a human, or dog come by, he immediatly tries to sprint away from us and toward the newcomer. it is so bad, we must hold him, and even when we do he lets all four of his little paws go like he is trying to run. He just will not calmly meet anyone.

well hopefully someone else has experienced this and can help.
thanks
Peter and Jacques Chirac

gus also had a bout with an upper respiratory infection a few weeks after we got him, although i'm sure no one would have guessed he was sick at all because it hardly slowed him down! i too had wondered at some point if his behavior towards our other dog was appropriate because he was treating his exceptionally tolerant brother like a jungle gym (exactly as i described it also!) i had posted my concerns on here about gus' behavior perhaps being too aggressive or trying to be dominant because these guys are so fearless!

as for the puppy add, i can totally relate to you there too, because gus gets extremely distracted when he is outside and supposed to be doing his business. i know if i bring gus outside of our apartment and he sees a car, fluttering leaves, once a plane passing quietly overhead even...ANYTHING at all i know i have a long time to wait. as soon as he spots people also, he makes it his job to want to greet absolutely everyone w/in his sight. sometimes he is so focused he will plop down on the sidewalk to watch his subject intently.

anyhow, we've experienced all this so i just wanted to let you know that you are not alone! unfortunately, i don't know if there is much i can say about how to help! i think a part of it is just them being puppies and that we have to be patient and correct them consistently. good luck!

Sounds like a normal puppy to me. I believe the adult dog was giving him a "puppy license" to behave badly. I wouldn't expect an untrained puppy to stick right with you off-leash, and no-way are they trained at 11 weeks.
