Bikini is a five year old spade female who we adopted a couple of weeks ago from a breeder who retired her. She had three litters and was spade well over a year ago. She was used to living with a large number of other dogs-various breeds and did live in the house. The people we got her from said she should have no problem getting along with her new fur kid cousins. My extended family includes many dogs. :)

She was assertive but not combative when she meet a black lab at his house. As a mattrer of fact it went so smoothly I thought super, she will fit in with the rest of the gang no problem.

We took her with us to Thanksgiving and introduced her to four of her new cousins. They are all neutured males and are easy going, play well with others type dogs. After a bit of posturing she got on fine with the lab, pom-mix, basset hound and even with a jack russel who showed up a bit later but she would not back off of the english bulldog.

He ignored her for awhile then she aggressively lunged at him and it was "on".

Not wanting her to get hurt we jumped in (he is a BIG boy). We got everyone calmed down and literally kept her on a short leash for the rest of the day. The next day we returned to my sister's house-same group of dogs and she was a bit less aggresive, seemed to be getting used to the other dogs EXCEPT the bulldog. She just wants a piece of him. As long as they weren't in the same area everything was fine with all of the other dogs.

Is this what happens when two dogs want to be top dog? The big bulldog didn't growl or pay much attention to her after the initial sniffing, until she provoked the situation, now he growls back.

The difficult part of all of this is that even though the english bulldog (three year old) is usually very docile, if he did bite he could really hurt her, so we can't let risk letting them sort it out like the dogs.

Since she was way more kicked back on the second day--but still aggressively growling at the english bulldog every so often when we let her wander over toward him. Will this get better with repeat visits?

She has shown no aggression toward people. She doesn't bark when people come to the door--often doesn't even get up right away to greet them. She doesn't seem high strung, anxious or timid. She is very happy and easy going. Everyone who meets her loves her because she is so happy. :)

She follows basic commands: sit, stay, bed and seems to understand household rules. I am taking her to obedience training in January (soonest new class in the area) as she is a bit of a puller on the leash. ;)

Any adivice on how to get her to play nice with the big boy?
