hi everyone
I took manja to see the specialist the other day (bone specialist and neurology specialist) and unfortunately they all the say the same thing. Manjas outlook is not good. Ive just been crying all the time for the past couple of days. They say that in most cases like his eventually the dog loses all use of its back legs. I am at a loss and totally devestated. The vet says he cant say for sure about the future because every animal is different, but that it could be a matter of months.
I have been doing some research on the internet for doggy wheel chairs (to prepare for the worst) and have found some good sites like doggon.com and I have also booked manja in for an acupuncture session for next week. Apparently some dogs which have had similar problems have regained the use of their legs through acupuncture as it stimulates the nerves and improves circulation. The vet is a wholistic vet and she is going to assess manja for herself (i told her that surgery is no use) and is going to give him about 3 sessions in quick succession to see if he responds well.
Manja is actually pretty unaware of the situation as thinks that everything is fine and is just as it always was. He's still running around and jumping (in his funny way), but it breaks my heart to know what is going to happen soon. Im sorry for putting up such a depressing message but I thought I should let everyone know about what is going on incase it should happen to anyone else. Any optimistic, cheerful messages would be very welcome.

Kelly.....I am so sad to hear your bad news. We all pray for a healthy dog and something like this is our worst nightmare. I am not familiar with acupuncture but have read where some have had success with this treatment. I am one who always believes in miracles....and I pray for one for Manja.

Give Manja a hug and kiss for me. Carolyn

Kelly,

I've been wondering about you and Manja and am so saddened by your news ... but also glad that your little boy has no clue what's going on and is still running and playing like normal. Though I've never known a dog to go to acupuncture, I've known plenty of people who SWEAR by it. Especially arthritic people who have basically given up on a 'normal' life. Acupuncture has, in some cases, restored them to a happily pain-free life.

Maybe it's a placebo affect, but they really believe it and thrive. I hope that Manja does too!!
