Tuffy was having stomach problems and took him to vet. I just happened to mention that my husband has to feed Tuffy ice cream. Did he think this was a good thing. He said to never feed a bulldog ice cream because it destroys their pancreas. That scared me to death. Has anyone else heard of this? melinda

Melinda,
Frenchies do tend to be prone to Pancreatitis.. and ice cream is not essential to our dogs' diet..
There is no real reason that your Husband "has to " feed your dog ice cream. He may "want to " feed your dog ice cream;) , but it really is in your dogs' best interest NOT to have it..
Listen to the Vet; no more ice cream or fatty foods, like the skin from the Thanksgiving turkey...

If your hubby "has" to feed the dog ice cream (although I can't imagine why) check out the posting on this board under dog recipes. There is a doggie ice cream you can make at home that is very healthy for dogs. It contains 3 ingredients: plain yogurt, peanut butter, and bananas. Very easy and my dog - during the summer only - loves it! Even if he only gets a spoonful of it once a week. But it's a treat he loves and it's frenchie friendly.

My husband's last dog was an American Eskimo. He always ate table scraps and other crappy foods and we didn't think anything of it. Well...after my mother in law fed him his own plate of thanksgiving dinner (gravy, cheese sauce...the works), he developed pancreatitis. He was in the hospital for 1 week and fed through IV. He was never able to eat again without throwing it up. We eventually had to put him down. He was 13 years old so he had had a good life up until then but it was the hardest thing to watch and go through.
With Beckham, he only gets what he needs and treats are always healthy. He has a better diet than me in fact! I would listen to what we are saying and stay clear of the ice cream. It's just not worth it.
