Arlo is under the bed eating the carpet and won't come out!!!! He knows we can't reach him in the middle of underneath the king size bed and he won't stop eating the carpet...how could this be good? Nothing was enticing him to come out..not even a treat! Does anyone else have this problem with their puppies eating the carpet?

Oh, I'm sorry but thanks for providing my morning chuckle!

Puppies are like kids-what OTHER people's do is always funny!

Could something have been spilled there? Steak juice?

My Westie got in the Halloween candy and went through a mini Kit Kat-least chocolate in the basket so we were lucky it wasnt worse, but he licked the spot on the carpet where he ate it for two days

Otherwise, all I can say is buy some of those under storage units for the bed to keep him out or he may tear under there to hide with every no-no he can. Its probably like a den for him-does he have a crate?

As if it couldn't have gotten worse! As he got close enough to the edge I saw what he had in his mouth was the dried up remnants of cat throw up!!!!
UGHHHHH
I quickly took it out of his mouth before he could eat it!
Under the bed 'used' to be our cats safe haven from Arlo, but now he braves it under there and drove out Sammy..who is not letting his territory go without a fight.
Unfortunately the bed is next to the sliding glass door that we use to take him out into the backyard (he's too young to be exposed to the front yard yet) and he uses that opportunity to run underneath after potty time.
If I can get to him fast enough I take him directly to the other room.

Bruiser has feasted on dried cat-throw up too   Silly puppy. One of our cats is a chronic puker and sometimes I don't find a place where she has deposited a present for days... the few precious moments that Bruiser has free run over the entire house, he always manages to sniff them out!!

You too huh??
Yeah, we have a chronic puker too...I think I was expecting this eventually just not so soon! yikes!
But Arlo does try to eat the carpet sometimes...he's like a piggy snorting and chewing..the carpet is new so I can't imagine there is anything that even remotely smells like food particles..
I have tried soooo hard to puppy proof the entire house but the most unsuspecting things that I would NEVER think he would try to chew (like carpet!) he does...on a more positive note I am losing weight chasing after his every move.

Not to gross you out further but dried "up chuck" is the least offensive cat product our dogs go crazy for. According to Belzie the litter box is full of treats! And if I ever leave the door to the storage room open I don't even need to look for her to know where she is

Haha...we sure do have some funny stories!

Thanks goodness Beckham has no interest in poo or any other disgusting things.

He does like my dirty underwear though, I guess that is kind of wierd.

HAHA... Taz loves dirty underwear. And he loves showing it to other people other than me & my husband. He will hide it and lie in wait for someone to visit and them bring it to him. Not funny.... Well Kinda.

When I got Sheriff, I took him to work with me for the first 2 weeks. I would let him out of the crate when I didn't have any customers and could pay attention to him. I work at a football store and we have that fake grass carpet. astroturf kinda? anyways.. he would sniff around and finally would find something I guess that smelled good and just eat away. If I let him he would do it for hours, he wasn't really getting anything though. He even started spinning around in a circle and eating it at the same time.

He started doing it at home, but not so much anymore. But I do find him in the kitchen licking away at the floor, or the cabinets. If I dont discourage him, he could lick the same spot for hours.

One thing I have tried with Sheriff if i dont want him going somewhere in the house or chewing something. Bitter apple. He loves wood, and started chewing up the furniture so I bought the stuff and it works great. I took a few days off work and was waiting to catch him chewing up something, i finally caught him, so i said no, and sprayed bitter apple on my finger and had him lick it or you can spray a little on his tounge. and than I would spray the furniture that i caught him eating while he was there with me and I would say no. he hasn't done it since. now we use it for my roommates dogs bed, because if sheriff is laying in it, my rm mates dog will pee all over it and make the living room smell. or we will spray around my rm mates dogs food bowl. It all depends. some dogs can lick it and not care. sheriff hates it and will run if he even see the bottle. When I was looking for the bitter apple there was spray that you could spray around the house if you didn't want your dog entering a certain room, or if you dont want your dog on the furniture. That was going to be my next step, but the bitter apple ended up working.

good luck!

Thanks Sheriff...we are getting the spray today b/c Arlo likes chewing wood too...
It was so funny..last night he must have found something on the outside of the garbage can and started licking the same spot for what seemed like hours! He'd paw at it, lick it, roll on his back and lick it upside down, paw some more, repeat...he was absolutely OBSESSED!
But I like the idea of the bitter apple to keep him from where he shouldn't be..this might be the answer to my Sammy's prayers and he can finally have his 'safe haven' under the bed back! Also maybe bitter apple on the litter box..Arlo hasn't done it yet but god forbid he has a taste for treats like Belzie!

No problem. Bitter Apple is the answer to almost all my problems i run into with sheriff, it helps with everything. Its help my other friends dogs too. If it doesn't end up working, I dont know who makes the stuff, but it keeps dogs out of areas of the house and they have some that keep dogs off of furniture. I was going to buy that stuff, but the lady at petco swore by it, but it ended up working.

Sheriff does the same thing arlo does. he licks it, paws at it, barks at it, and even gets into his fight stance like hes going to play fight with another dog. its weird. and he loves wood and anything related to wood. i would come home everyday before i bought the bitter apple and find huge wood chunks in the living room, i sprayed it a couple of times and just left it there he picked it back up, started licking himself and the carpet to get rid of the bitter apple taste and i haven't found wood chunks in the living room since.

good luck!

SO...apparently Arlo is one of the ones who LIKES the bitter apple
I had even sprayed my shoes to keep him from chewing them inside the house and when I took him outside he actually went WILD on them after I sprayed them...he usually never chews my shoes outside!

We have the exact same problem but under our couch. Treats didn't work. She would go under there and just bark randomly and be a pest. Finally I took an umbrella and gently scooted her along and out from under. It only took a couple times before she scooted out on her own as soon as she heard the umbrella tap the carpet!

I have to agree 100% there! If I accidentally leave the half door open to the storage/computer room, Ellie is in there like a bolt! And she hides when she hears me coming, but she is not as slealthy as she thinks she is!
